Tadhg or Tate

Half Irish boy growing up in the UK. Siblings have Irish names but easier to pronounce.
I love the short snappy sound of Tadhg and the nickname Tiger for a little one. I then discovered Tate which we also like but is quite different in style, but might be easier to live with in the UK. It was actually my eldest son's suggestion!
Thoughts please!

Tadhg.

Tate is an art gallery

TerribleCustomerCervix · 23/12/2021 01:04

It’s not hard to pronounce is it? If someone can say Tiger, they can say Tadhg.

Lovely name, was DH’s pick for DS.

Orreries · 23/12/2021 01:02

Well, they’re pretty much opposites as naming styles. Tadhg by a mile.

Omicrone · 23/12/2021 00:55

Yes it's pronounced 'T-igh-g' I think. Its really nice but I think it would be a bit tricky in the UK. I don't really like Tate though.

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2021 00:46

Tadhg is so much nicer than Tate.

@YellowBelly7 it's pronounced like the first part of 'tiger', hence the suggestion of Tiger as a nickname.

YellowBelly7 · 22/12/2021 23:50

How do you pronounce Tadhg? I've never come across it before! Thanks

Fupoffyagrasshole · 22/12/2021 23:44

I love Tadhg

My little girl has a difficult to pronounce Irish name in London

I only have to explain it once to people usually and then they know it

Doesn’t bother me

custardbear · 22/12/2021 23:38

I love them both, Tadhg isn't that difficult once pronounced - chose your favourite

H12asdf · 22/12/2021 23:35

I have a teenage Tate. Still love it so I’d go for that!

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2021 22:21

Tadhg - and Tiger is a nice nn. He will have to explain it, but at least it’s easy to say.

Tate just sounds made up, which is a shame if your other kids have names with some history and culture behind them.
