Thoughts on Rue?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I knew a fella called rue, couldn't get kangaroo out of my head, plus he was an arsehole 🙄

ThatLibraryMiss · 19/12/2021 22:50

@HunkyPunk

Rue is also a plant, otherwise known as herb-of-grace. I think it would be a lovely, unusual name!
It's an abortifacient, albeit not a very safe one, widely used in the MIddle Ages and before, with a bitter taste and a nasty smell.
RubyRoses · 19/12/2021 22:49

My dd is Roo (nn) and I love it! Not so sure as a full name but if you love it that's all that matters.

Kite22 · 19/12/2021 22:44

Another who wouldn't want to name a child a word that means 'regret' - seems very sad.

Why not go with 'Ruth' ?

MrsBobDylan · 19/12/2021 22:41

I like it, especially given the herb connection a pp mentioned.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/12/2021 22:32

I think Ruth then shorten to Rue

Gingernaut · 19/12/2021 22:31

@babouchette

Makes me think of the little one that gets bumped off in the Hunger Games.
That was my first thought too.

Then the idea of 'rue the day'.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/12/2021 22:27

I know a Rhu, but his name is Rhuadri. It suits him.

treacletartpudding · 19/12/2021 22:24

I shorten my ds's name to Roo

bumbledeedum · 19/12/2021 22:21

I know a Roo, pronounced the same as Rue but she's short for Veronica

CherryRedDMs · 19/12/2021 22:20

Love it, I wish it had crossed my mind when I had a baby to name.
My first association would be with the herb.

Animood · 19/12/2021 22:18

RuPaul Charles?

Could be used for either sex haha

FindingMeno · 19/12/2021 21:58

I love it.
Rune or Runa could be alternatives.

delshell · 19/12/2021 21:56

Like others have said I don't think it works as a full name because of the meaning of the word. Why not use it as a shortening for another name?

Ruth
Ruby
Rowena

Toolatebaby · 19/12/2021 21:50

Ru short for Rumer? (rumor/rumour) I quite like it.
Bruce Willis daughter with Demi Moores name.

ffscovid · 19/12/2021 21:45

I know a Roux. It's a lovely sounding, pretty name but written down I just think of butter and flour.
I also know a Ruby who's known as Roo. I like this better I think (although I occasionally think of Kanga..)

MsJaneAusten · 19/12/2021 21:43

I was also going to suggest Romily. It’s a lovely name.

DaffyDaffy · 19/12/2021 21:41

Ru short for Ruth?

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/12/2021 21:39

Romilly?

What’s your boys name? - to get an idea of what you like

FleetwoodRaincoat · 19/12/2021 19:54

Ruby? Ru for short?

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 19/12/2021 19:52

Is your name Kanga?

chipshopElvis · 19/12/2021 19:52

It's a sad name for me. Rue the day.

jazzyseph · 19/12/2021 19:51

I know a wee girl called Rua

MichelleScarn · 19/12/2021 19:48

Bloody spell check!!

Ruairí/Ruaidhrí/Ruaidhrígh/Raidhrígh/Ruaraidh

Are the options!
