Rue Paul drag race

inmyslippers · 23/12/2021 16:09

I love it! I do associate it with hunger games but it's not a bad thing

BOBBY232 · 23/12/2021 16:06

Ru, short form of Rupert.

Met a Romilly with Roo nickname in a park over the summer? V pretty

DuesToTheDirt · 20/12/2021 19:27

If I heard that I'd be thinking her full name must be 'Kangaroo'...

Kshhuxnxk · 20/12/2021 19:23

You'll rue the day............

Itsmek · 20/12/2021 19:23

My little girl is Maisie Rae.

My granny was a Mae, and my grandma a Rae... Hence the combination, but I think Rae is so pretty... It's like a Rae 'y' of sunshine

BurbageBrook · 20/12/2021 19:20

Reminds me of ‘road’ in French and also the synonym for regret. Really weird!

Magnited · 20/12/2021 19:12

It's an abortifacient, albeit not a very safe one, widely used in the Middle Ages and before, with a bitter taste and a nasty smell.

This is what it brings to my mind. I can't help thinking the plant got its name from regretting a pregnancy. Shame, because as a plant it is very delicate with some perfectly formed leaves and a beautiful hue.

@k4523

Rua quite popular in Ireland
Rua was ranked 324th in baby boy names in Ireland last year, there were also a few named Ruadh. However, this is a recent use, as Rua was commonly used as a descriptor in the past, rather than a name as such. It means red (more specifically rust-coloured) and is the word used to describe red hair colour. So Eoin Rua is red-haired Eoin, while Eoin Fionn is fair-haired Eoin, for example. This way of distinguishing people has mostly fallen out of use now though.

Rue makes me think of regret as pp have said, OP.

Rula as in Rula Lenska?

ShippingNews · 20/12/2021 05:27

I wouldn't go there. Rue means regret - it's not just a "name meaning" people really say "he'll rue the day he decided to do that" . And a roux is a white sauce - again it isn't just a name meaning, cooks say they are going to make a roux . Either way I wouldn't call a child that.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/12/2021 04:51

Rhea / Ria?
Rhiannon?

piefacedClique · 20/12/2021 04:48

I have a ‘Roux’. There were some raised eyebrows at first but now it’s just normal

nightdune · 20/12/2021 04:42

Not a fan of Ruby. I love Ruth and it's meaning but DH isn't sure he does. Feels like we've read every girls name that exists and still can't find something we both love.

Eli is the boys name we have picked out. Levi and Lev are our backup names.

There's an uncommon name Ruhannah for which Rue could be a shortening.

powershowerforanhour · 19/12/2021 23:06

I think of:

You must wear your rue with a difference.

Then fucker will rue the day!!

Both quite depressing. Ok as short for something else like Ruby.

Mischance · 19/12/2021 23:05

In English rue is either a herb or means regret. I would think of something else if I were you.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 19/12/2021 23:03

I know a Ruby & a Reuben who are both known as Rue.

Elieza · 19/12/2021 23:01

I don’t think I’d name my child after a herb used in medieval times to cause abortion.

However as a shortened version or nickname of another full name it’s fine.

I do think of the golden girls though 😀

Omicrone · 19/12/2021 22:59

@babouchette

Makes me think of the little one that gets bumped off in the Hunger Games.
Yes, same here.

And it does have negative connotations with its meaning. I do actually quite like it as a name but I probably wouldn't use it for a child.

Havanalily1806 · 19/12/2021 22:57

YouTuber/"influencer" whatever you call it these days has named her daughter Otillie Rue

I always liked ruex as a middle boys name but can't get past the butter and flower thing...

I do think rue is a pretty middle girls name though

MelloYellow · 19/12/2021 22:56

Love it but spelt ‘Roux’
