Adley?

What do you think of Adley for a little girls name? I saw it on a baby name website and I think it is quite pretty. Is it an unusual name? Because I don’t know any, but I feel like I’ve heard of it before.

Not a massive fan, if I'm perfectly honest. Not a pretty name and sounds more masculine to me.

Never heard of it, but it looks like a surname. Nothing pretty about it, and I wouldn't use it for a girl or boy.

Just seeing the title of your post I immediately thought of Adlai - very established Hebrew name (there's one in the Old Testament), but traditionally male.

Nothing wrong with Adley for a girl if you like the surname-as-firstname style, but I do expect people hearing it without seeing it might confuse it with the much more popular Hadley.

Odd. Looks like 'adley (i.e. Hadley, with the H dropped).

Adeline, Adela, Adele and Adelaide are all lovely, real, recognisable, names.

Yes this - Addy would work as a fine nn for any of these

It is a name with some use in the 19th century. Looking at the UK censuses, it looks as if there were a handful of girls called Adley born in each decade from the 1830s to the 1870s. From the 1880s it looks as if it gets rarer and is more often used for boys than girls. Sometimes it doesn't work well with the surname, such as Adley Lambley, girl, born 1837, and Adley Femley, girl, born 1846. In some cases, the name on the census may be a shortened form so some could be Adelaides originally, but looking at the birth records some are definitely Adleys.

Same, where I'm from there's a very good chance Hadley would become Had-leh rather than Had-lee, but the 'H' is definitely there!

If not a missing H then it feels like it's missing an 'e', Adeley (which could be pronounced like Adeline, or like Adrian).
