Benjamin, Joseph, Maxwell, Charles/Charlie,

Too boring? Will be 1 of Several..
Traditional, can't go wrong?
My girls all have 3 traditional/well known names but not overly popular.

Love Benjamin. Less keen on the others. Charlie is cute but I don't really like Charles.

KirstenBlest · 19/12/2021 12:46

In order:
Charles/Charlie,
Benjamin,
Joseph
Maxwell - Max is nice but I don't like Maxwell

Benjamin and Joseph are both classic, beautiful names. Fabulous names with great namesake throughout the centuries and lovely nicknames too. Both suit all ages too.

Charles/Charlie I can't stand - sorry to any parents of these. (Charles sounds ultra conservative, and dull/miserable, whereas Charlie is super cutsie and infantile.)

Maxwell is all coffee to me, but I do love both Max and Maximilian.

Meh… All a bit meh to me but they’re not my style of name. I’d choose Benjamin if I had to though.

mum2jakie · 19/12/2021 10:03

All lovely names. I prefer Ben/jamin and would go for Charlie rather than Charles as a given name.

daisypond · 19/12/2021 09:59

Maxwell isn’t at all traditional.

Ceramide · 19/12/2021 09:49

... as long as it's pronounced Jo-Ziff and not Jo-Siff.

Ceramide · 19/12/2021 09:48

Joseph

Mumofgirls2017 · 18/12/2021 21:54

Joseph

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2021 01:05

I like Joseph and Benjamin.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/12/2021 23:15

Joseph

ohidoliketobe · 17/12/2021 22:35

Biased as I have a Benjamin. We shorten to Ben but he's got the option of the full shebang if he so desires when he's older.
Timeless and 'life lasting' name as in suits someone of all ages from baby to elderly

JuliTooley · 17/12/2021 22:31

Joseph is a really nice name and not too common these days. Benjamin would be my second favourite, followed by Charles then Maxwell x

GirlOfTudor · 17/12/2021 22:24

I'm not a big fan of Ben as it's over used for boys of my age growing up. But I love the others. My son is a variation of Max and he has the option of using Max or his full name depending on the situation.

WeasilyPleased · 17/12/2021 22:20

I love Joseph. It's the name of someone very close to me.

TheVanguardSix · 17/12/2021 21:54

Benjamin and Joseph.
Wonderful names.

MindyStClaire · 17/12/2021 21:53

I have two DDs, but if they'd been boys they would've been Joseph and Benjamin so I think you have great taste. Grin I currently prefer Benjamin.

marypoppinsreturns · 17/12/2021 21:44

Joseph, I would have used it if I could.

HeronLanyon · 17/12/2021 21:15

Charles. Don’t see maxwell as traditional but maybe I’m wrong ?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/12/2021 21:14

I love traditional names -Joseph and Charles are the most timeless to me (never been out the top 100), so are my faves of the 4. I'd probably choose Joseph as Charlie is so popular in it's own right too (I personally prefer Cal as a nn if Charles needs one).

Maxwell is a bit surname for me - but classical Maximilian, nn Max is very nice. Equally nothing wrong with Benjamin as such - I just prefer the sound of Benedict for the nn Ben.

harmonyhall · 17/12/2021 21:14

Charles

wizzler · 17/12/2021 21:00

Love Joseph
Prefer Ben or Benadict to Benjamin

Velvetbee · 17/12/2021 20:32

Joseph. Gorgeous name. Never met a dodgy one.

RedWingBoots · 17/12/2021 20:14

The only name I don't like is Maxwell.

I know a few Benjamins of all ages.

The Charlies are boys and young men, while the Charles are old but called Charlie.

The Josephs I know old but called Joe.

MinnieJackson · 17/12/2021 20:05

Benjamin
