For a boy
Surname is long so a short name is needed

First thought - Lex Luthor, second thought NN for Alex/Alexander?
Probably would go with a longer version and use Lex as a NN :)

LittleDidSheKnow · 19/12/2021 12:13

I really like it, OP, though I'd assume that it was short for Alexander. I like all the Alexy names.

DoucheCanoe · 18/12/2021 13:49

@Arethechildreninbedyet - I have no words 😳🤮

gogohm · 18/12/2021 13:06

Sorry my first instinct was the baddie from superman too. Why not something traditional eg James?

Arethechildreninbedyet · 18/12/2021 12:55
@EishetChayil there's plenty of Rex's around and I've never heard anyone confuse it for "sex" Confused
You’ve just broken a fucking NIGHTMARE I’ve spent almost half a decade trying to forget.

At toddler group with my eldest there was a little boy called Rex. His mum used to make him do the ‘sexy rexy’ in front of her friends and he would do a thrusting shimmy dance as she chanted ‘go rexy you’re so sexy’ whilst looking around to see who was watching.

I need to go and bathe in bleach again to rid the memory from my body 🤢

RockinHorseShit · 18/12/2021 10:45

We know an adult Lex & he's a genuinely lovely, clever & very cool guy. It's a great name too. Go for it

StormyTeacups · 18/12/2021 10:33

Alexander with the nickname Lex is fine.

EishetChayil · 18/12/2021 10:31

Too close to "sex".

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/12/2021 00:59

While I like Alexander best, I much prefer Lex to Alex as its both less commonplace and I'm personally not that keen on unisex names (I know a few female Alex's, but no female Lex's - although a couple of Lexi's).

Myusuername · 17/12/2021 18:21

Maybe not then😵
I dont watch films no i was non the wiser on that part lol…
My little boy likes alex so maybe go with that

It’s not a name, it’s a word which basically means law www.thefreedictionary.com/lex

Moolia · 17/12/2021 16:43

Don't think I'd want my precious baby to put people in mind of a top tier villain!

frogswimming · 17/12/2021 16:14

I think of Luther too, but that's not a bad thing, he's a top tier villain. I would probably go for Alexander on bc.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/12/2021 16:00

If you give him Alexander as a full name, it’s fine as a nn.

SummaLuvin · 17/12/2021 15:25

I seem to be in the minority but I would assume a Lex was a girl.

MirandaBlu · 17/12/2021 14:59

The Lex I know is Alexander, but he uses Lex most of the time (business cards, email, etc.) He does get asked about it a lot - someone recently thought it was short for Lexington. (I also know an Alexandra/Lexie who sometimes gets called Lex.)

finallychangedmyusername · 17/12/2021 14:59

I'd assume a Lex was named Alexander and that Lex was a nickname. I'd also link Lex to Lex Luthor.

Max? I think Max works better/OK as a standalone name, not just for Maximilian. Or Rex?

Moolia · 17/12/2021 14:59

My first thought is superman villain.

My second thought is that it's Latin for "law".

What about Max instead?

ElectraBlue · 17/12/2021 14:58

A bit too Superman for me (Lex Luthor)...

Instead you could go for Alex, Alexis, Alexander and shorten it to Lex if you wish. At least your kid would have the choice to stick to his full name if he was not keen on Lex.

LittleMysSister · 17/12/2021 14:56

@DoucheCanoe

I see Lex, I hear Luthor!

Not necessarily a bad thing but it's an unusual name so most adults will probably jump to the same connection if that bothers you?

I quite like it :)

Same here :)
OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 17/12/2021 14:56

@Myusername, yes Lex Luthor- Superman villain.

Lex sounds unfinished and very made up to me.... yes, yes I know all names were originally.

U8976532 · 17/12/2021 14:30

Lex Luther was my first thought too, imagine if he suffered hair loss as an adult, that could be a bit embarrassing with the name....

ufucoffee · 17/12/2021 14:22

I think male version of Lexi. I'd name him Alexander (even if it is long at least it's a proper name) and just call him Lex.

Arethechildreninbedyet · 17/12/2021 14:12

Lex Luther is the first thing I think of!

I’d maybe go Alex and just call him Lex
