How old is Jessica?

Someone said that they think Jessica is an old lady name but to me it is quite timeless/maybe more popular with people aged 20-40. If you saw the name Jessica written down how old would you expect her to be. Would you be surprised if a baby was called Jessica now/do you know any children called it?

@CrispAndFrosty

It's not at all popular with old ladies, so I can only imagine the person who said that was thinking of Murder She Wrote.

You're right that Jessica is unlikely to be over 40. I'd imagine a young woman in her 20s, but it's still quite popular for babies.

Jessie is an older name, as it is the traditional Scottish nickname for Jean, and has been used independently. A lot of people will have a Jessie way back on their family tree, but almost nobody will have a Jessica.

Working in dementia care, I've come across quite a few Jessie's (so Jessica). 2 great aunts were called Jessie, one one on the maternal side, one on the paternal. It's was a pretty popular name back then, most of them being called Jessie.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/12/2021 17:13

40

DelurkingAJ · 14/12/2021 17:11

I know five under the age of five. And a couple who are 30-45. (But I wouldn’t be surprised to see them at any age)

Lipsandlashes · 14/12/2021 17:09

I know an 8 year old Jessica and a 40 year old Jessica. I agree that it is timeless (and lovely).

SkankingMopoke · 14/12/2021 17:08

In my world, Jessicas are under 10 or an OAP, although there are the odd outliers inbetween.

nordica · 14/12/2021 17:07

32 to 45.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/12/2021 17:06

Pretty timeless I’d say. InJessicas who are 3, 14, 40s and 90s!

A580Hojas · 14/12/2021 17:05

I know two Jessicas.

One is 53, the other is 20.

Pemba · 14/12/2021 17:03

It's not as popular as it once was, I'd say most Jessicas around are probably in their 30s? As I think it had a surge of popularity in the 80s. But it's a lovely name and has been around for ever, appears in Shakespeare as a pp pointed out.

Certainly not 'old lady' though, don't know what that person was thinking.

BiscuitLover3679 · 14/12/2021 17:03

Agree it’s timeless but I would automatically think of someone young maybe 20-30

Sansa717 · 14/12/2021 17:00

I know Jessicas ranging from 2 to 52! It’s pretty timeless IMO. Id probably assume 20-30 age range.

NdujaWannaDance · 14/12/2021 17:00

Jessica is a classic it’s been around for a long time. (Shakespeare)

Yes but it's still gone in peaks and troughs of popularity in more recent times. I am in my 50's and I never came across a single Jessica in my life until my peers started using it for their daughters around 25-35 years ago.

Eightandahalfyears · 14/12/2021 16:59

Mine is 13. We have three Jessica’s in our school.

Schmooo · 14/12/2021 16:57

Greenfields124 · 14/12/2021 16:57

I would say it's timeless.
It's a beautiful name.

NdujaWannaDance · 14/12/2021 16:56

TuftyMarmoset · 14/12/2021 16:55

The ones I know are 15-30 or 80s, nothing in between!
