Frances or Cassia?

fakeit2makeit · 12/12/2021 13:19

We’ve finally whittled down our shortlist to two (though open to more!):

Frances Lyra (Frankie)

Or

Cassia Frances (Cassie) - in the UK Cassia is pronounced Cassy-ah

I really can’t decide. I sometimes think that both Frankie and Cassie are a little harsh sounding. I still have some residual name regret over DC1 and so I’m super cautious this time. We will probably wait to see what she looks like before deciding for sure, but I feel anxious still being this undecided.

Would love to get a general consensus about these names from you impartial lot!

Thank you xx

I love Frances and prefer it to Cassia. I preferred the shortening Fran to Frankie, which I’m not keen on, but it’s just a nickname. I prefer both Frances and Cassia to Francesca and Cassandra which other posters have mentioned.

Definitely Frances, that’s lovely and classy. And Frankie is super cute as a nn which she can shed as she gets older if she wants to go for the more elegant Frances.

LadyWithLapdog · 12/12/2021 15:08

You could do Francesca with Cassie as NN. Though you know you can't really dictate what the child's NN will be.

I like both nicknames but prefer Cassie.

Personally, I would prefer Francesca and Cassandra as the long options but that’s just me and Cassia and Frances are fine too.

Cassia is lovely

Flamingosnbears · 12/12/2021 14:57

Frances is a lovely classic name it's not too dated at all lots of nickname potential as well it's the right mix of stands out fits in sort of name.

DramaAlpaca · 12/12/2021 14:37

I was going to say Frances until you mentioned Frankie. Frances is such an elegant name and much classier than either Frankie or Francesca, and I wouldn't shorten it.

I'm not keen on Cassia, but I do like Cassie. It's not at all 'chavvy' (horrible word) as a pp described it.

luverlybubberly · 12/12/2021 14:35

Cassia.

With Frances/Francis, it's not obvious if she's a boy or girl

collybubble · 12/12/2021 14:32

Frances is sophisticated and classy but not Frankie

Cassia is a bit chavvy imo

Anomelettefortheroad · 12/12/2021 13:43

Frances is an old lady name and not in a good way. I think id go for Francesca rather than Frances.

Ceramide · 12/12/2021 13:37

Cassia Frances

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 12/12/2021 13:37

I like both, and Cassie and Frankie, although veer towards Cassie. Doesn't sound harsh at all to me.

The only thing that puts me off Cassia...is that it's the name of one of Boris Johnson's many kids. No criticism of her, I'm sure she's a nice person, it's just any link to Boris Johnson make me grimace a bit. But if I put that aside it's a nice name!
