Frances or Cassia?

fakeit2makeit · 12/12/2021 13:19

We’ve finally whittled down our shortlist to two (though open to more!):

Frances Lyra (Frankie)

Or

Cassia Frances (Cassie) - in the UK Cassia is pronounced Cassy-ah

I really can’t decide. I sometimes think that both Frankie and Cassie are a little harsh sounding. I still have some residual name regret over DC1 and so I’m super cautious this time. We will probably wait to see what she looks like before deciding for sure, but I feel anxious still being this undecided.

Would love to get a general consensus about these names from you impartial lot!

Thank you xx

I like Cassia Frances best. Cassia and Cassie are both very pretty (I really like Cassandra too). Frankie does sound rather harsh to my ear I'm afraid. Cassia on the other hand is soft like a whisper with a cinnamon fragrance (particularly lovely for a Christmas baby!)

SoapySnowflake · 14/12/2021 09:03

Cassia. I’ve always found Frances a bit stuffy (sorry, just personal taste). I prefer Francesca.

Frarnces · 14/12/2021 07:47

My Frances goes by Francie (as well as Frances) which would hit both sounds. I’m not too keen on Frankie.

Obviously I think you should choose Frances Grin.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/12/2021 23:52

Like them both, Cassia Frances just edges it

FlamingoDust · 13/12/2021 19:02

I know a lovely Cassia. She loves her name (and loves how it is a type of Cinnamon) she hates it being shortened to Cassie though! I think Cassia Frances flows really nicely

Yika · 13/12/2021 18:47

I love both Frances and Cassia but can't see why you would shorten them - they are both lovely on their own. I don't like Frankie at all.
Of the two, I prefer Frances which is very classic and elegant. Cassia Frances is a lovely combination.

FindingMeno · 13/12/2021 14:26

Ooo, I love both options.
So, Cassia Frances Lyra..... I love Lyra so I'd have 2 middle names.

Olga03 · 13/12/2021 14:20

Frances is a good, solid name, but if I'd meet a Cassia my first thought would be what an incredibly beautiful name :) eventually one of my favourite girl's name I read on Mumsnet.

Puffykins · 12/12/2021 23:01

Cassia. Boris Johnson's daughter Cassia is not speaking to him, so it seems unfair to taint the name with association to him. Also she's lovely.

WeasilyPleased · 12/12/2021 22:58

Cassia Frances is so elegant.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 12/12/2021 22:46

Both are great, but I prefer Cassia Frances.

TuftyMarmoset · 12/12/2021 22:28

I like Cassia and Frances but I don’t think they go together. I don’t like Frankie though, I’d only go with Frances to plan to call her Frances or Fran.

escapingthecity · 12/12/2021 22:00

One of Boris Johnson's daughters is called Cassia.

ElectraBlue · 12/12/2021 21:53

Cassia Frances is really beautiful! great choice.

Peachbubble · 12/12/2021 21:37

Definitely Cassia

Ikeameatballs · 12/12/2021 20:58

I really like both Frances and Cassia but I think Cassia Frances has too many ‘s’ sounds in it. So for me Frances Lyra wins!

VanillaAndOrange · 12/12/2021 20:34

I love Frances but don't particularly like Frankie for short - I prefer Fran or just Frances in full.

Cassia is a type of cinnamon and that's the first thing I thought of when I read it. It's not unattractive as a name though - and people are called Saffron so why not a name that means cinnamon?

I think as a whole combination, I slightly prefer Cassia Frances.

EishetChayil · 12/12/2021 20:26

Cassia Frances.

Frankie is hard-sounding and ugly.

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 12/12/2021 20:00

Cassia. Never been a fan of Frances, I find it really dowdy and frumpy.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/12/2021 19:48

Cassia is gorgeous - both classical origins (so has an elegant feel imo) but a nature name too (so also has a slightly quirky vibe to me). I also personally prefer the nn Cassie over Frankie - although like you I still prefer the full names. Cassia Frances is a nice mix to me - you have a more "modern" sounding first name with a very traditional middle name.

I don't dislike Frances or Lyra but I somehow find Frances a bit serious/formal sounding and Lyra has become slightly trendy now.

tiredanddangerous · 12/12/2021 19:43

I prefer cassia to Frances. Really don't like frankie.

GemmaRuby · 12/12/2021 19:37

I like Cassie as a full name rather than Cassia.
Not a fan of Frances.

Tal45 · 12/12/2021 19:35

Definitely Cassia Frances.

DotDotDotDotDot · 12/12/2021 19:32

Cassia Frances is a gorgeous name, I’d go for that if I were you.
Cassia Is definitely on my list if I were to have another DD. I get a cool, nature type vibe from Cassia - not in the least bit downmarket as a pp mentioned. I like the balance of a more traditional middle name like Frances with it aswell. Good luck, whichever you choose will be lovely.

elfran · 12/12/2021 15:45

Frances is the best name on your list imo. It would be a shame to shorten it to Frankie. I do like it as a middle as well though.
