Libatius for a Boy

Pronounced Lye-Bay-Shus.

Came across the character Libatius Borage while re-reading Harry Potter and thought Libatius is actually a lovely name. Wondering what MN thought of it? I had a look on darkgreener and it isn’t in any use. Bit out there? Or a charming name that deserves more attention?

Yeah. Hilarious.

Kitkat151 · 12/12/2021 09:27

It’s vile

BumBurnerBum · 12/12/2021 09:27

In ancient Greek a libation was an offering poured on the ground as an offering to the Gods.

More recently it refers to an alcoholic beverage and a libatius person is a drunk.

So no. Pretty word not so great meaning. Like Siphilis.

As long as you can afford to send him to Eton where you can pass him off as eccentric but extremely rich, fine.

If not? Avoid.

museumum · 12/12/2021 09:27

Libatious means boozy doesn’t it? Informally.

AuntieDolly · 12/12/2021 09:26

Seriously?

MrsColon · 12/12/2021 09:25

Also makes me think of The Libation Bearers

unfortunateevents · 12/12/2021 09:25

Please don't do that to a child.

Lulu1919 · 12/12/2021 09:25

No

Bergamotte · 12/12/2021 09:25

It makes me think of alcohol (libation) so do consider that.

Bells3032 · 12/12/2021 09:25

No just no

ohreallynotreally · 12/12/2021 09:24

Awful

MrsColon · 12/12/2021 09:24

Honestly? Sounds like one of Jacob Rees-Mogg's kids.

Deux · 12/12/2021 09:24

Don’t be daft. Are you serious?

AuntieMarys · 12/12/2021 09:23

Dreadful
