Which three of my favorite girl names do you like the best?

Charlotte
Violet
Lily
Rose
Rosamund (prn “Rose-uh-mund”)
Julia
Eve
Eva
Diana
Nadia
Sylvie
Margot “Maggie” or “Meg”
Magdalena “Maggie” or “Meg”
Genevieve
Caroline
Louisa
August
Elizabeth “Elle” or “Eliza”

Also, what qualities do you look for in a name? I look for glam, romance, and musicality, but do you rank quirkiness and distinctiveness higher?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TuftyMarmoset · 08/12/2021 23:33

My favourites from your list are probably Elizabeth (although I don’t care for Elle), Julia and Rose.

I look at the meaning of the name and the actual sound (harsh consonants, vowels etc). I think it’s a bit odd actually to be looking for names that are glam and romantic - what if she’s not into those things? And people will have differing perspectives, for example I don’t find Caroline glam and romantic at all.

Newbabynewhouse · 08/12/2021 23:27

Charlotte and violet... my dds middle name is violet.. i liked charlotte but DP didnt want it xx

RavenclawsRoar · 08/12/2021 23:27

Sylvie
Rose
Elizabeth

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2021 23:23

Julia, Louisa and Caroline are my favourites, followed by Rose, Lily and Eve.

I like fairly classic names that sound nice to me and that I like the look of written down. I tend towards shorter names, but have a soft spot for Caroline.

Kite22 · 08/12/2021 23:19

I like: (as favourtie 3 out of your list)

Margot “Maggie” or “Meg”
Caroline
Elizabeth “Elle” or “Eliza”
BUT

I like Margot as a 'stand alone' name, but if I were wanting 'Maggie I would call her Margaret and if I were wantinf Meg I would probably go for Megan

I like Elizabeth, but don't think of 'Elle' as being a shortening of it, not Eliza. If you want either of those names I would give them those names. Elizabeth is likely to become Liz or Lizzie.

Flutterflybutterby · 08/12/2021 22:52

Magdalena, Elizabeth, Genevieve, and Rose.

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 08/12/2021 22:21

Genevieve

RockinHorseShit · 08/12/2021 22:21

Love Genevieve, the rest not so much so

I know 2 Augusts, both male, so not sure if that's a typo & yiu meant Augusta ? I know a lovely 20 something Augusta

finallychangedmyusername · 08/12/2021 22:04

My favourites are definitely Charlotte, Violet and Louisa, although I also very much like Sylvie, Rose, Julia, Diana (prefer Dinah) and Eliza (also like Elizabeth, but prefer Eliza). To me August is a boys name, the female version would be Augusta.

dustandfluf · 08/12/2021 21:53

I chose 4. You have some lovely names.

Charlotte
Rose
Sylvie
Louisa

August is a male name.

2pinkginsplease · 08/12/2021 21:52

Charlotte
Eve
Eva

Kanaloa · 08/12/2021 21:50

Oh actually Genevieve is very nice as well. To be honest it’s such a nice list you could choose pretty much any name and have a winner! The only one of the whole list I would change is Julia - although I like Julia I love Juliet so would choose that.

Kanaloa · 08/12/2021 21:48

They’re all lovely. I like Margot, Louisa, and Elizabeth best.

When I chose my children’s names my most important factor was wearability. Some names are fantastic but you really would need to be a bubbly personality to pull them off. I’m thinking very unusual names/some animal names etc. Whereas if your name is Louisa or Thomas or Jackson or Marie you can really be anybody. Nobody thinks it’s odd if James if shy or if he’s the life and soul, but if you’re called Rainbow or Tiger you have attention on you right away.

professionalcockney · 08/12/2021 21:48

Violet
Diana
Eliza

Thepowerofthelook · 08/12/2021 21:48

Top three lily, Elizabeth and Charlotte.

groovergirl · 08/12/2021 21:44

Rosamund
Genevieve
Diana

I tend to favour elegance, and these are three very elegant, glamorous names.
The first two also have nice nicknames, Rosie and Genny.
The one drawback with Diana is that people inevitably shorten it to Di, which is awful. If this were my name I'd insist on Diana every time.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/12/2021 21:43

Top 3 - lovely and underused
Diana
Caroline
Augusta (presume you mean this? August is a boy's name)

Also quite like these - but popular/going that way

Julia
Louisa
Margot
Sylvia (less twee than Sylvie)
Genevieve

Don't like
Nadia
Magdelena (fussy)

These all way too overused
Charlotte
Violet
Lily
Rose
Rosamund (prn “Rose-uh-mund”) - too similar to overused Rose
Eve
Eva
Elizabeth

WinterCarlisle · 08/12/2021 21:41

Rose (but prefer Rosa)
Eva
Violet

MrsFin · 08/12/2021 21:41

Charlotte, Elizabeth and Rosamund.

NannyR · 08/12/2021 21:40

Charlotte, Caroline and Louisa are my favourites.

BHX3000 · 08/12/2021 21:40

Lily, Julia and the third choice would be between Rose and Caroline.

I look for names I like the sound of, that’s it. If they have a nice or interesting meaning that’s a plus, but I don’t start the search there.

naynayisay · 08/12/2021 21:37

Elizabeth, Margot and Rose

SleepingStandingUp · 08/12/2021 21:37

I'd shortlist...
Charlotte
Violet
Lily
Rosamund (prn “Rose-uh-mund”)
Magdalena “Maggie” or “Meg”
Genevieve

I just look for something that I like the sound of

Comedycook · 08/12/2021 21:36

Lovely names...we have similar taste. Sylvie is gorgeous and I love Caroline, it's so glamorous and underused

BirdsBirdsBird · 08/12/2021 21:35

Violet
Eve
Magdalena (but not Maggie)
