Hi all
First time posting.
Due a baby boy in a couple of months & thinking of calling him Jack. We're not onboard with the new name trends and don't like names that are out there. Want a simple and classic name but not too popular at the moment.
We both love jack however my best friend says it's not a very nice name and very outdated. Is it?
We like jack Alexander / Jack Sebastian or Jack William

I work in a primary school and Jack is very popular!

DanielleInE17 · 06/12/2021 14:08

It's an absolutely fine name and importantly, people will know how to spell it so he won't need to spend his life saying 'L for Lima, L for Lima, E for Echo' the way I have lol!

KirstenBlest · 06/12/2021 14:07

I know lots of Jacks and they are fine. Good solid no-nonsense name

Synchrony · 06/12/2021 14:07

I love it. I'm also not a fan of current trendy names.

Don't discuss it with your friend!

My friend inadvertently told me that my favourite boy name is awful (she didn't know it was my favourite name, she just used it as an example of a horrible, outdated name). Oh well. People have different tastes. Plenty of other people like it, you'll never find a name everyone loves.

KellyABC · 06/12/2021 14:07

Not outdated (Jack Grealish!) and very nice.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/12/2021 14:06

It's a basic, classic name. I dont think you can go wrong with a name like Jack. And names don't make kids naughty.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 06/12/2021 14:06

It’s absolutely fine. I think Jack is a short form for another name if you’re on the fence, but it’s lovely. I know a little one year old Jack.

Emsie1987 · 06/12/2021 14:04

My little boy (2.5 years) and is called Jack. Everyone comments on what a sturdy no nonsense name it is. It suits them as a baby all the way to being a man.

However, I do get comments that he will be jack the lad etc and naughty boys name. To be fair he is a little naughty and hyper. But really suits the. I like how you can't shorten it as well.

KeyErro · 06/12/2021 14:04

I think it's a little bit dated (but then it's a classic name and does come and go) and it's been very popular for a number of years.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/12/2021 14:01

It’s not outdated, it’s been in the top ten boys names for years.

SickAndTiredAgain · 06/12/2021 13:48

I don’t think it’s outdated, I think it’s one of those names that doesn’t date someone. Eg if an 80 year old was called Jack, in my opinion that wouldn’t seem out of place, ditto a 40 year old, ditto a child. Obviously it has periods of being more popular and periods of being less popular but I don’t think it has an obvious era.

SpinsForGin · 06/12/2021 13:44

Jack is lovely. Definitely not outdated or associated with bad behaviour.
It's just a nice, normal name - which I love!

mony29 · 06/12/2021 13:43

Thank you. Forgot to add that she said Jack is associated with bad behaved little boys, but we still really like the name 🙈
You're right we definitely won't be discussing the name with anyone else until birth

It's fine - one of those simple unfussy names I can't imagine ever really being 'outdated'.

Immaculatemisconception · 06/12/2021 13:40

Ignore your best friend, in fact don't discuss names with anyone other than your DH and Mumsnet.

Jack is a gorgeous name.
