Traditional names for boys that aren’t super popular?

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 03/12/2021 19:41

I love unusual names - for example I was set on Cosmo, but DH absolutely hates it.

DH prefers traditional names like George or Harold, but for various reasons can’t use Harold and half of little boys seem to be George or William or Henry! Any traditional names which are slightly less popular? I am struggling!

@Arethechildreninbedyet you obviously don't work in a primary school. There are hundreds of them

RebeccaCloud9 · 03/12/2021 20:59

I teach an Alan (aged 8). It really suits him!

RebeccaCloud9 · 03/12/2021 20:58

@Arethechildreninbedyet really? There's loads where I live in the 4-11ish age range!

One of my favourite EVER names was Thaddeus when I was pregnant with my eldest to be shortened to Teddy.

DH vetoed it instantly and I don't think I'd ever have the balls but I think it's a beautiful name!

Maybe if we ever get a dog...

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 03/12/2021 20:52

@KirstenBlest that is such a useful tool, thank you. I think all the names I like are on the up!!

I love Wilfred...

Wilf, Will, Freddie or Fred for short.

KirstenBlest · 03/12/2021 20:50

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou, use darkgreener to see how popular a name is

names.darkgreener.com/#roman shows that it's a name getting very popular

the ons baby name site will show popularity over the years

Something like Philip, Simon, Peter, Michael, Anthony, Mark, Andrew will be less likely to be popular

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 03/12/2021 20:50

@sjxoxo how lovely that he looked like a hugo! I love the name - sadly it really would just feed my father’s ego too much to name my child after him Grin

@AngelinaFibres you make a good point.

@Toastfiendish ah this is the kind of information I need, although how sad - I really love Raphael. I guess rafferty has become very popular so it was only a matter of time…

@KirstenBlest thank you! I think I like that.

We have similar taste op! I also was big fan of Rupert, Raphael, Robin (my dads name!).. DH not so keen so we have compromised on Hugo 😆Middle name Robin for my dad.
He’s due 22nd Jan. Saw his face on a 3D scan and it confirmed to me that he is a Hugo 😂 felt like it suited him! Congrats xo

KirstenBlest · 03/12/2021 20:44

Amos is pronounced AIM-oss

Toastfiendish · 03/12/2021 20:44

In my bit of London I know 3 Otis' born this year and 3 Raphaels/Rafis. So I think these ones will probably end up pretty popular.

AngelinaFibres · 03/12/2021 20:43
