Esra for a girl

Elspethelf · 02/12/2021 00:26

We are not yet pregnant but daydreaming. My husband and I don’t often agree on a name, but miraculously both love Esra for a girl. Is this useable do you think?

It is a variation of the Middle Eastern name Asra. My husband is Middle Eastern. Other variations are Isra and Izra.
@Warmduscher so people who know me don’t think there’s a pregnancy yet. If you are suggesting it was to make a statement and create a debate, well that’s trolling ;)
As I said, trolling should be reported to MNHQ. No point saying it back to the poster you claim is a troll.

So why post “we are not yet pregnant” if it’s all about the baby name?

nannybeach · 03/12/2021 22:58

Only ever heard it for a boy. Also hate the "we are pregnant" thing
@Warmduscher You and I both know you didn’t post to genuinely ask if I know what gender gets pregnant. As far as I can tell you posted, and are still posting, to be unkind to me. Mission accomplished. You can stop now.
“What gender gets pregnant”?

Gender has nothing to do with it. The sex of the person who gets pregnant is female.

I posted because I’m fed up of people posting “we’re pregnant” when it’s clearly nonsense. Stick to biological facts. Women get pregnant, couples have children. It’s that simple.

Thank you for your well wishes @hollyandivyandallthingsyule
@hollyivyandallthingsyule By ‘I agree with pp’, you mean person who decided to troll a name thread with an unwanted opinion about my choice of phrasing.

When you are talking about what women can go through during pregnancy I assume you are talking about women like me. I suffered infant loss at one day old earlier this year. You can’t speak for everyone. I’m my case, I couldn’t do a second of it alone and thinking of it as ‘we’ gets me from one second to the next.

I appreciate your thoughts on the names, let’s just leave this as a name thread.
If you suspect someone on a thread of being a troll, you need to report them to @MNHQ.

If, on the other hand, you post that you think it’s possible for both the husband and wife in a couple to get pregnant, you need to accept that some people will think you’re talking nonsense.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 03/12/2021 21:49

@Elspethelf that’s understandable. I’m sorry for your loss though of course I know nothing can make it better. Flowers

(FWIW I don’t think pp was trolling - words do matter, particularly right now, and women have to be very careful when words are used to potentially claim their experiences.

Of course there are situations where words also matter just as much in the other direction, and I completely understand that you do not want to face things alone. Sending you good wishes.)

Elspethelf · 03/12/2021 21:47

Thank you @mynameisnotkate I think perhaps the best thing about finding an uncommon name is you are less likely to come across someone you know with that name and it changes your view. I feel like everyone who has said they know an Esra has liked them so far :)

I’ve got a Turkish friend named Esra, I think it’s lovely.

Isra and Izra are much better I think. Esra is way too close to Ezra.

(Also I agree with pp, there is no ‘we’ in being pregnant. It minimises and dismisses what the woman is going through and will potentially go through.

You will be pregnant and your husband can be part of your team with him needing to be given ‘credit’ for something he’s patently not doing.)

Warmduscher · 03/12/2021 16:34
@warmduscher Yep! I absolutely believe in ‘we’ during pregnancy. When the baby arrives I also believe it’s ‘our’ child.
Not quite the same as believing that your husband will be pregnant too, though.

Elspethelf · 03/12/2021 16:30

@venusClapTrap hahaha your DS sounds like fun

Prefer Asra.

Pascal80 · 03/12/2021 10:56

It sounds like Ezra. People will assume she is going to start writing hypnotic cantos.

VenusClapTrap · 03/12/2021 09:52

I love Asra and Isra. Esra not so much. Ds (9) is currently going round calling everyone their names backwards - he finds his own highly amusing. 🙄

Please tell me you don’t believe that providing the sperm for your egg means he gets pregnant too? Shock

IgneousRock · 03/12/2021 05:58

I would assume Esra is a boy, but if that doesn’t bother you then I wouldn’t have noticed the arse thing.

Asra is beautiful!

TakeMe2Insanity · 03/12/2021 05:54

My aunt was Azra.

Justilou1 · 03/12/2021 01:56

I really like it
