Hazelelponi / Hazzelelponi (female, means ‘the shade-facing’)
Rehabiah (male, means ‘extent of the Lord’)
Uzai (male, means ‘He’)
Letushim (male, means ‘Hammermen’ or Filemen’)
Jo’nan (male, means ‘Gift from God’)

What do you think of these names? My favourite would have to be Hazelelponi or Uzai.

@chesirecat99 ah well, proves my point about it depending on a person's culture then Smile

chesirecat99 · 28/11/2021 13:30

@LunaticLandscape

Would depend on your culture/religion I think. The only one I'd feel comfortable using is Jo'nan
But the J is pronounced Y and the ' represents a glottal stop. No one is ever going to be able to pronounce or spell it correctly. Think of all the nightmares trying to fill in online forms that won't accept "punctuation" as a letter.

@LozMarieFielder

Just to let you all know I am not going to use these lol - am asking for a friend who wants an unusual Biblical name (not these ones in particular but something along these lines).

You should be a good friend and tell her these are awful

Have to confess that, much as I like biblical names, none of these really 'grab' me. How about:

Hepzibah
Bathsheba
Keziah/Kizzy
Rebbekah
Micah
Malachai
Israel
Caleb

SleepingStandingUp · 28/11/2021 13:25

Also Gideon is underused. And Ezekiel. Malachi. All lovely religious meanings

merryhouse · 28/11/2021 13:24

Actually I quite like Rehebiah.

Naphtali and Issachar (and Asher and Dan, Zebulun and Gad)

stingofthebutterfly · 28/11/2021 13:15

There are some beautiful Biblical names. These are all bloody awful.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/11/2021 13:11

Hazelelponi / Hazzelelponi (female, means ‘the shade-facing’) shortens to Hazel easily so not usable.
Rehabiah (male, means ‘extent of the Lord’)
Uzai (male, means ‘He’)
rehab. No.
Letushim (male, means ‘Hammermen’ or Filemen’) let us in. No.
Jo’nan (male, means ‘Gift from God’) I like it.

I'd pick Balthazar personally for an unusual biblical name

vampirethriller · 28/11/2021 13:10

Quite like Rehabiah.

DoodleBelle · 28/11/2021 13:07

Awful. Setting the child up for a lifetime of problems.

Adventing · 28/11/2021 13:05

I love Biblical names but I think these would be very difficult to say/spell which can be hard for the person who carries that name. There are lots of lovely Bible names though

Shalom (means peace, would suit a girl I think)
Juniper (symbolizes hope/blessing, again for a girl)
Esther
Phoebe
Lydia
Chloe
Hope (a virtue name but still fits imo)
Beulah (promised land)

Solomon
Josiah
Malachi
Isaiah
Seth

BaronessBomburst · 28/11/2021 12:57

I'm dying to know the book, chapter and verse for Hazel Pony. Grin

RhubarbFairy · 28/11/2021 12:52

Good grief.

Viviennemary · 28/11/2021 12:51

No. All totally beyond dire. Theres plenty of sensible biblical names.

JuneOsborne · 28/11/2021 12:51

I think that they all sound like a mouthful. And every teacher will make a mess of them. And they will be spelling them forever. I also don't think they're very nice.

But, as ever, it's a personal choice and people will get used to them.

But it feels a bit like saddling a kid with a name.

They sound made up. I know all names are made up but the first one in particular looks like you've seen the name Hazel and want a unique take on it. Hazeleleleleopopoponi. Not good.

MatildaIThink · 28/11/2021 12:32

All seem thoroughly awful to me.

LunaticLandscape · 28/11/2021 12:32

TeenMinusTests · 28/11/2021 12:31

Unless you are orthodox jewish, then I don't like them.

If you want Biblical names then you have Daniel, Rebecca, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, John, Paul, Isaac, Aaron, ...
