Some of them are awful and some of them gorgeous and underused.

I love Faith, Joy, Honor, Mercy (which I saw posted about on here recently - which went down very badly) and Hope.

What's your favorite virtue name? (Of all of them, not just the ones I like!)

Assuming you like any, of course Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AuntieStella · 27/11/2021 15:52

I once knew a Prudence who really didn't live up to her name!

I'm not wild about virtue names but quite like Constance and Grace

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 27/11/2021 15:47

I had a boyfriend a long time ago called Destiny. He was largely a bit embarrassed by it and went by Des but it did lend itself to lots of corny chat up lines eg 'I think I might be your Destiny' etc etc

Chisandbiscuits · 27/11/2021 15:26

I love the name Solace, it's a beautiful word anyway but I like the connotations.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 27/11/2021 15:16

My favourite is Clemency.

BiBabbles · 27/11/2021 15:11

There are quite a few I like, though not all of them for a child.

Peace names like Irena/Arina, Salome, Paz (the last I would most definitely not use in a mainly English space).
Aretha
Amity
Ardent
Clarity
Chares / Charis(sa)
Clement / Clementia
Endeavor
Esperanza
Honora/Annora
Justine/Justica
Liberty
Loyal
Mercy/Mercia
Merit
Moxie
Solace
Valora
Zeal

KaycePollard · 27/11/2021 15:03

Verity

Then the really classic ones:
Mary
Jane
Katherine (means purity)

starrynight21 · 27/11/2021 14:49

Chastity .

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2021 14:45

I love Constance, Felicity and Joy.

Blaze isn't a virtue name.
It's a version of Blaise, which comes from Latin or maybe Ancient Greek words meaning either 'to stammer' or 'bow-legged'. www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Blasius
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Blaise

It just happens to sound similar to a word in some Slavic languages that means 'good', but that is not the origin (or meaning) of the name.

@AuntDympna

How is Blaze a virtue? For a girl I quite like: Insubordinata Valour Grit Sagacity Justine Meditation
Justine is the only one of these that is actually usable - you can’t call a child Grit!
IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/11/2021 10:33

DD ‘s middle name is Hope, which I love anyway for its optimism, but she was named after the Hope Valley in Derbyshire, rather the virtue iyswim.

I also really like Felicity (happiness) and Verity (truth).

I used to come across a male Comfort through work from time to time. He was lovely. His surname was Golightly as well, which was just a gorgeous combo.

SE13Mummy · 27/11/2021 10:29

My favourite are Verity, Hope, Felicity and Constance.

I've taught children named Beauty, Best and Godspower.

Ginandplatonic · 27/11/2021 10:17

I like Verity, Honor and Clemency.

Serenity. And also Grace.

IVflytrap · 27/11/2021 09:43

I really like the sound of Patience, but I'm not sure it would be a great name to actually have.

I hav an ancestor called Honour (spelt the British way). I really like it and prefer that spelling.

Endeavour (as in Endeavour Morse Grin) is a cool one.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/11/2021 09:02

I actually have met men/boys called Blessing and Destiny. I would have assumed that they were female if I had just seen the names written down. All from West African heritage

BlueFlavour · 27/11/2021 08:48

I know a girl called Blaise. I like it.

ESGdance · 27/11/2021 07:57

@EIIa

So girls get Joy Constance Grace Patience Virtue

And a boy gets
BLAZE?

No wonder girls are conditioned to be such people pleasers 🙄

On that basis alone I don’t like them, sorry.

When boys start to be called Patience and Verity, I’ll change my mind happily. 😂

Blaze is a saints name (patron of suffering and wool combers) - original french spelling is Blaise - but spelt Blaze in many other countries
Westfacing · 27/11/2021 07:42

A late elderly neighbour was Hope - she was a lovely and interesting person.

I worked with a Temptations for a short time.

Helpimfalling · 27/11/2021 07:41

Charity

BabyRace · 27/11/2021 07:40

I love Blessing. I'd never use jt but I've taught two Blessings and love it.
