Eden Mary Genevieve Surname

Or Eden Magdalena

What do you like best? My other children have two middle names, but Magdalena is so long I thought one would suffice. Genevieve is my DH's favourite name and Mary one of my (other) favourites, but love Magdalena too.

Our boy's name choice is Moses but we haven't got any ideas for middles yet, so that will be a different thread, unless you have any suggestions!)

(If you don't like any of the names, no need to comment, thank you! Not looking for opunions on Eden or Moses as have already dedicted several-page-long threads to that, just looking for middle names now Smile)

Moses Joshua Henry is so handsome. Love Moses btw

I've heard Genevieve pronounced both as Jen-uh-veev, or as Zhon-vee-ev, and that might make a difference how it flows with your surname.

I think Mary is traditional enough that the slang interpretations would usually be the first thing that someone thinks of.

Eden seems much more modern. All three are extremely different names, that's for sure, but if they flow well with your name and you like them, fair enough!

@Pinkhippotato

I love Eden Mary Genevieve and am sad that I'm too old for more babies.
Argh, I mean because I'd consider it for my own daughter otherwise 🤣

Mary is absolutely fine imo. Even if OP was in the UK and using it for a first name, then I still think the majority of people would view it as a classic retro/vintage name with some obvious religious links rather than automatically thinking "vagina" or "Hairy Mary/Virgin Mary" or whatever teasing. I can see Mary making a big comeback in future along with similar style names like Ruth, Frances, Margaret, Anne, Jane etc - all classics sadly fallen out of fashion.

Eden does have a more contemporary sound though so I can see why OP is drawn to it as a first name - while it is technically unisex being a nature/Biblical place name, it has definitely gone more to the girls side (in the top 100 for girls here in the UK now!).

Genevieve is just simply a pretty, French sounding name to me, although in my ignorance I didn't know it had Biblical links (I think Eden/Mary/Magdalena are much more obviously so).

@Strokethefurrywall

I know a Bethlehem known as Beth 🤷🏽‍♀️
Yes, there's nothing weird about biblical place names being used as names. I'm with you on this! Ophir is a very popular Israeli name (Ophira another girl's version), both from the place Ophir in the bible, which some people consider to be today's India. Jordan and Bethany are two incredibly well-known biblical place names. Judah is obviously a place name and so is Zion, Ariel, Bethel, Aviv/Aviva, Bethlehem. Eden was very popular with the puritans and has been in jse ever since, so I'm not sure why some people are confused by it. I expect it is all about different personal interests (those who have read the bible will consider the biblical places, i suppose football fans will think of football!)

I don't think I've ever heard three names that go together less than Eden, Mary and Genevieve.
Magdalena Eden is the best combination of the names in the OP, if you must.

Not keen on Magdalena but Eden Mary Genevieve is lovely

HerRoyalHappiness · 25/11/2021 23:51

Eden Mary Genevieve is lovely.

How about these for a boy

Moses Joshua Adam
Moses John Luke

Thank you @Strokethefurrywall! Smile

@camelfleas

But Eden isn't a biblical name, it's a place name. I know a couple of boys with Eden as a name, both named after a footballer. I'd assume you were football fans rather than religious (although some people do view football as a religion 😉)
Have you read the bible? Eden is a biblical place, as is Bethany. They're both biblical names. They are names that come from the bible. Anyway, I'm confident in my name choice and didn't ask your opinion on it. I know nothing about either football or Essex and my child won't be growing up in the UK so won't be an issue for her either. We are Christians and have chosen Eden foe religious reasons which I don't feel the need to justify to you. Smile I was, as I said, asking for middle name advice. Your crude comment about Mary is being ignored as it most definitely is not heard of among either the foreign or British people I know. Thankfully I know people who would just do this face at you 😬 if you made the vagina comment to them and probably think it reflected more on you than on the classic, religious and timeless name Mary 😂

Beth is short for either Elizabeth or Bethany.

TatianaBis · 25/11/2021 23:30

I live in London but it’s been discussed on here before and it’s not geographic - posters all over the country know Mary as slang for vagina.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/11/2021 22:57

Eden is a biblical place name, it’s still biblical. Much like Bethlehem’s shortened to Beth.

I also don’t understand why anyone would assume the parents of a child called Eden would be considered football fans but I’m not in the UK or a football fan so I guess it doesn’t much matter.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/11/2021 22:54

Mary = vagina? @TatianaBis where the fuck do you live that Mary is a euphemism (not even well known) for a vagina?

OP, Mary is a lovely name, I’d go with Eden Mary Genevieve for sure, especially as it’s your husbands favorite name.

And Moses is wonderful!

Thank you for the nice comments about the name, and the suggestion for middle names for Moses! I think Moses Matthew James is my favourite but I do love Moses Joshua 😍

Shasha17 · 25/11/2021 22:40

Mary = vagina is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard and frankly even when I was in thr UK I'd never heard that and I know several Marys Confused. It must be a regional thing but certainly wasn't used in my area. I'm sure the name Mary is much more familiar to people due to being the name of the Virgin Mary and countless women from history, and not some odd British regional slang. As a Christian Mary is a pretty important name to me so not one I'd sacrifice for such an odd reason 😂

Eden is decided. We aren't in the UK (or even Europe) so there is no "quite Essex" connotations here! Just considered a perfectly nice biblical name. Only looking for middle name suggestions and not thoughts on the first names, as I said in my OP Smile

My friend had a Moses Joshua.
He must be 30 now!

DramaAlpaca · 25/11/2021 21:39

Eden Mary Genevieve is just lovely.

TatianaBis · 25/11/2021 21:33

I think Genevieve and Magdalena are far nicer than Eden which is quite Essex.

I would do Genevieve Eden or Magdalena Eden.

Mary = vagina.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/11/2021 20:44

Love the names but would swap to Eden Genevieve Mary.

Moses Matthew James
Moses Paul Thomas
Moses Aaron James

@WheresMyCycle

I thought Eden was a boys name?
Eden is unisex. Not sure where OP is but in England and Wales there were over twice as many girl Edens than boy Edens last year.
