Don’t laugh but…

Think I’ve found the perfect name for DD. Disclaimer: DD’s first name translates to ‘loveable’ in husband’s native language.

So DS name could be … ‘Mungo’. It’s Celtic for loveable too.

How bad is it?

Mungo… time for dinner!

The reason I suggested David was not to suggest a ‘safe’ name - it was because it means beloved so has the meaning you want.
I definitely think there is scope to be more adventurous than Jack (not that there is anything wrong with Jack!) but I do think Mungo in particular is a bit cruel.

Does Mungo sound Mango though? My autocorrect keeps trying to change it to the fruit so maybe even my phone is trying to tell me something

I'm open to lots of unusual names but even I think Mungo is bloody awful. You can be original/ different without setting your child up for a lifetime of bullying!

There is definitely a middle ground between Tom and Mungo Grin

I'd only be influenced by people's opinion here if they'd pointed out something genuinely problematic about a name (first name and surname were the same as a famous serial killer, name meant 'big fat cock' in Portugese etc.) rather than the fact that they just didn't like it.

But - taking everything on board - it’s an obvious no. To answer previous PP, I’m 36w so not mid pregnancy.

It's not an obvious no at all OP. I'd say there's more support than naysayers and the supporters are very enthusiastic.

I wouldn't make decisions based on what MNers say on here, there are some very very conservative posters who have everything that's not Alfie or Ella.

I know what this forum would make of my kids' names & I couldn't give a toss, nor would it ever occur to me to ask.

Mabli is nice. Welsh for Mabel and currently popular in Wales.

Go for Mungo, it's a lot more characterful that the Theo/Jack/Teddy type names

That's a shame, I actually think it's a cracking name but I'd never be bold enough to use it! There must be something else that's not so run of the bill but will raise less eyebrows......are you willing to tell us what DD is called?

Hamishs are well represented in Scotland and Gavins and Alistairs are absolutely ten a penny, but in all the years I've lived here I'm yet to meet a Mungo. So I would say it's definitely more remarkable than those other names

This is my experience too. Never met a (human) Mungo on either coast of Scotland.
