Think I’ve found the perfect name for DD. Disclaimer: DD’s first name translates to ‘loveable’ in husband’s native language.

So DS name could be … ‘Mungo’. It’s Celtic for loveable too.

How bad is it?

Mungo… time for dinner!
Awesome job Mungo!
Let’s talk about Mungo’s school report.

Please someone tell me it’s a grower.

Mungo Barry, awesome and hot pro surfer

TuftyMarmoset · 25/11/2021 18:06

The reason I suggested David was not to suggest a ‘safe’ name - it was because it means beloved so has the meaning you want.
I definitely think there is scope to be more adventurous than Jack (not that there is anything wrong with Jack!) but I do think Mungo in particular is a bit cruel.

LadyHalesBroach · 25/11/2021 18:05

Does Mungo sound Mango though? My autocorrect keeps trying to change it to the fruit so maybe even my phone is trying to tell me something

Love it. Knew one at school abs he was cool. Easy to say and spell but different. Yes!

LampBookPicture · 25/11/2021 17:37

I like it. It's cool.

Classica · 25/11/2021 17:29

OP has addressed the 'a girl called Mungo?' thing.

EuromamaAussiekids · 25/11/2021 17:24

@EuromamaAussiekids

Mungo Grin poor baby
A girl named mungo?Hmm
EuromamaAussiekids · 25/11/2021 17:21

Mungo Grin poor baby

WhoppingBigBackside · 25/11/2021 17:08

They're mung beans

Mamamamasaurus · 25/11/2021 16:40

Beans. Mungo beans. No.

cookiemonster2468 · 25/11/2021 16:33

Thanks for the feedback! Looks like I need to go back to my list of ‘Tom’ ‘Jack’ and the likes. Safe

I'm open to lots of unusual names but even I think Mungo is bloody awful. You can be original/ different without setting your child up for a lifetime of bullying!

There is definitely a middle ground between Tom and Mungo Grin

Tal45 · 25/11/2021 16:30

Mabli is fab. Mungo is hideous.

Classica · 25/11/2021 16:26

I'd only be influenced by people's opinion here if they'd pointed out something genuinely problematic about a name (first name and surname were the same as a famous serial killer, name meant 'big fat cock' in Portugese etc.) rather than the fact that they just didn't like it.

TatianaBis · 25/11/2021 16:22

@LadyHalesBroach

Think I might have clarified this 4 times now but it’s for a boy.

But - taking everything on board - it’s an obvious no. To answer previous PP, I’m 36w so not mid pregnancy.

It's not an obvious no at all OP. I'd say there's more support than naysayers and the supporters are very enthusiastic.

I wouldn't make decisions based on what MNers say on here, there are some very very conservative posters who have everything that's not Alfie or Ella.

I know what this forum would make of my kids' names & I couldn't give a toss, nor would it ever occur to me to ask.

WhoppingBigBackside · 25/11/2021 16:05

Mabli is nice. Welsh for Mabel and currently popular in Wales.

Go for Mungo, it's a lot more characterful that the Theo/Jack/Teddy type names

emmathedilemma · 25/11/2021 16:04

Mabli and Mungo is amazing!! Do it!
I'm now researched welsh boys names to find something related to love.....
Carwyn- blessed love

MerryMarigold · 25/11/2021 15:57

I think go for Mungo.

LadyHalesBroach · 25/11/2021 15:47

DD is called Mabli…

“It’s Welsh. Means loved. Pronounced Mab-Lee. No I’m not welsh, DH is. No not Mayberlee, Mab-lee, like Mable.”

Which is the disclaimer I have to say every single time.

emmathedilemma · 25/11/2021 15:42

That's a shame, I actually think it's a cracking name but I'd never be bold enough to use it! There must be something else that's not so run of the bill but will raise less eyebrows......are you willing to tell us what DD is called?

LadyHalesBroach · 25/11/2021 15:39

And no @emmathedilemma and all others who assumed I’m a bit elitist. I swear that couldn’t be further from the truth.

It's a dogs name. X

emmathedilemma · 25/11/2021 14:57

I assume Mungo already has his name on the waiting list for Fettes college and Gordonstoun?

Shasha17 · 25/11/2021 14:52

I like it.

It's a saint name.

I know a very cool adult Mungo.

Marianne1234 · 25/11/2021 14:07

Hamishs are well represented in Scotland and Gavins and Alistairs are absolutely ten a penny, but in all the years I've lived here I'm yet to meet a Mungo. So I would say it's definitely more remarkable than those other names

This is my experience too. Never met a (human) Mungo on either coast of Scotland.
