Chipp.

What would you call your baby boy? We're really struggling to find a name for this little one, due in 6 weeks. Big brother is Oscar.

Any help gratefully received.

Sebastian, Alexander and Tristan also I think sound good

Fl0w3ry · 23/11/2021 19:05

Benedict or Louis sound best with your surname to me. Both good names.

Chunkymenrock · 22/11/2021 21:43

Not Elliott as the 't' is hard to say before the 'ch'. I like Adam or Joshua.

StartupRepair · 22/11/2021 21:38

Henry or Michael

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/11/2021 21:35

Agree with the pp who think a longer name sounds better with Chipp. Many of your choices are gorgeous but Sam, Tom, Ben/Ned, Max, Dan, Joe etc don't sound as good with the surname to me and they are very common/obvious shortenings.

Something longer which if it's shortened is generally to two syllables like Alexander (Alex/Xander) would be nice or Elias (Eli), Tobias (Toby), etc. Or perhaps something that's already at 2 syllables that isn't very often shortened like Henry, Caleb, Rufus, Jasper, Dylan etc.

VaguelyInteresting · 22/11/2021 20:16

Benedict Chipp is splendidly Dickensian, and gets my vote

Silas Chipp
Josiah Chipp
Lawrence Chipp (I love this too)
Solomon Chipp
Edmund Chipp

Etc etc

I think it’s a lovely surname.

I have a little boy whose father has an old fashioned sort of surname, and DS’ given names are after two older male family members (both born early 1920s). So Ds’ name is brilliantly old fashioned when it’s seen all together- he sounds like a character from a book too, which I personally love- though appreciate not to all tastes!

BFFfffff · 22/11/2021 20:03

I think Tobias would be lovely with your surname

moochooser2 · 22/11/2021 13:24

Any further suggestions would be wonderful. It's really hard with boy's names I think, plus with a difficult surname like this.

I don’t think Charlie Chipp works, agree with PP that it sounds comical.

Benedict is also an issue I think with the “ict” hard sound at the end preceding Chipp. Benedict Chipp is actually quite hard to say, no ideal.

@hellcatspangle

Oliver is a good shout, as it gets shortened to Oli which isn't too short sounding. I agree with PPs that names like Thomas and Samuel sound fine until they're shortened. Elliott doesn't tend to get shortened so that could work too.
Oliver Chipp - oi'll 'ave a chip! Yum

MrsFoxyplease · 22/11/2021 09:13

Maxwell or Thomas although they are likely to become Max or Tom.
Maybe a long name that has no obvious shortening. ( I'm struggling to think of oneConfused)

emmathedilemma · 22/11/2021 09:07

I think you need something with at least a couple of syllables that isn't likely to get shorted to a one syllable nn. Tom, Ben, Sam all sound too abrupt.

Love Lewis/Louis with your surname

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 22:19

Maxwell - no too odd
Samuel - Sam Chip is too short
Benedict - Ben Chip ditto
Joseph - Joe Chip ditto
Elliot - OK
Milo - OK
Daniel - Dan chip is too short
Charlie - this is just silly
Louis - OK
Thomas - Tom chip is too short

The names with obvious one syllable diminutives are going to end up that way, so pick something longer -

VenusClapTrap · 21/11/2021 22:04

No to Charlie. It sounds far too comedic with Chipp. Any of the others are fine. Samuel is my favourite.
