Can I get away with DAMM initials?

DH and I have finally agreed on name for DD2 but realised initials will be DAMM! Is that really awful?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a HUGE problem. But as you've written the thread and you've picked up on it, might it bother you a little? If you're already thinking about it now, it might bother you in the future when she's here or you might regret it.

Itsnotover · 21/11/2021 09:40

No, don't do it!

Shasha17 · 21/11/2021 09:39

I actually disagree that nobody would notice and nobody knows middle names. I think I know all my friends middle names and it's definitely been picked up on in the past when someone has funny initials or initials that spell something. Especially at school! Also, people tend to announce the full name of the baby when they announce the birth, no?

Abraxan · 21/11/2021 09:37

Only time I use my initials is at school (work) but even then it's only the first and last initial, never my middle one.

So not sure it's too much of an issue tbh.

potoforchids · 21/11/2021 09:35

*spelled out to them

potoforchids · 21/11/2021 09:34

I wouldn't even notice, realistically how many people in her everyday life are going to know her middle name?

People are reacting here negatively to it because it has been spelled outfly I them, when in real life they wouldn't even know those are her full initials, so this isn't a true reflection.

Shasha17 · 21/11/2021 09:32

Sorry, cross post.

Delilah Amelia would sound lovely with one more middle name in the middle. Together, they blend into each other a little - when I say them out loud, it sounds like "Delilah Ramelia" (because of the 'a' at rhe end of Delilah and the beginning of Amelia). How about
Delilah Maeve Amelia
Delilah Sophie Amelia
Delilah Isabel Amelia
Delilah Iris Amelia

crimblecrumbles · 21/11/2021 09:32

Amelia is a family member name so reluctant to change it

Change Amelia to Emilia?

TopCatsTopHat · 21/11/2021 09:29

Who even notices initials! You love the name, keep it.

RedRobin100 · 21/11/2021 09:28

I think it’s fine. It’s really not a thing

Shasha17 · 21/11/2021 09:27

I would add in one more middle name.

crimblecrumbles · 21/11/2021 09:23

Thanks everyone. She hasn't been born yet so we have time to go back to the drawing board if needs be. I just love the names! Delilah Amelia. I'm not religious just don't want her to hate it! I have a friend whose initials are PMS but she just jokes about it and isn't bothered. It's just a lot of pressure naming about her human!!

That wouldn't bother me tbh. Can't remember the last time I wrote down my own initials or looked at anyones. I don't know most people's middle names.

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/11/2021 09:13

I think as a child it wouldn't be a big deal. As an adult it could pop up all the time in users names that are allocated. However, that's a long way in the future, user names may have been replaced with something entirely different.

RacoonRocket · 21/11/2021 09:12

My DC is BAAA, never given it a moment's thought. Never used initials for anything. Middle names are so rarely used for anything, we never give middle names for anything even school, unless specifically asked for them.

RhubarbFairy · 21/11/2021 09:11

I had a teacher called Peter Ian Gregory once. He told us all this so we could chuckle that his initials were PIG.

I can't remember the last time I used my middle initial. Probably 25 years ago in secondary school where I put mine and the boys I fancied in a heart.

It's fine. Could be worse. I know a T.Watts.

celestebellman · 21/11/2021 09:08

I think it's fine - if it were DAMN might be different. Even then, who pays attention to initials anyway?

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 09:08

Just Chuck in a third forename - problem solved

mnahmnah · 21/11/2021 09:05

It’s not often anyone looks at full name initials and I don’t think this one is that bad. I wouldn’t change it. I would if it was ASS or TIT Grin

0verth1inker · 21/11/2021 09:01

Are you really religious? If wouldnt bother me at all. I doubt anyone will either pick up on it.

Westfacing · 21/11/2021 09:00

Does anyone look at someone's initials?

If in the long-distant future your DD has to initial pages on a work document, for example, she would just put DM.

Maybe I'm missing something.

ThirdElephant · 21/11/2021 08:59

Oh, cross post. As long as the A is a middle name, I think you'll get away with it.

starrynight21 · 21/11/2021 08:59

I'd change the A name to a consonant name. Kids can be nasty to one another - why set your child up to be teased ?

toastofthetown · 21/11/2021 08:57

Delilah Annabel Morgan-Matheson, could initial as DAM rather than DAMM, but that’s not great either. Honestly I’d change it. I wouldn’t want those to be my initials.
