DH and I have finally agreed on name for DD2 but realised initials will be DAMM! Is that really awful?

@MadameGazellee

Speaking of people with too much time on their hands ......🤦🏾‍♀️

Westfacing · 22/11/2021 16:57

Is there an English word DAMM? Even if the initials were DAMN it wouldn't be an issue, but DAMM?

As for those mentioning religion - what's that about?

Irishfarmer · 22/11/2021 14:09

Can't really see it being an issue. Kids might cop it at some point, maybe giggle, then move on. It wouldn't put me off choosing the names

CheeseMmmm · 22/11/2021 01:43

Just read back seen similar comment to above plus other situations.

With double barrel surname then o suspect DMM would be used. Makes for sense than 4 letters. Middle name is used normally in case 2 have same initials surely.

In fact correct work 2 with same initials and we usually have 2 initials for shorthand not 3. One is eg GY and the other GMY.

Really not going to be an issue.

CheeseMmmm · 22/11/2021 01:38

We use initials for lots of stuff in my last 3 workplaces. Notes from meetings, file names, and more. That can't be uncommon.

DAMM is easy to remember. A bonus!

@Strangevipers

Is this a joke ?

No one cares about initials

If you care you have too much time on your hands

What an odd question Confused Of course it's not a joke, and as you can see from reading the thread, some people would care about this. Bizarre post.
sageandbasil · 21/11/2021 20:34

Just realised the name we've picked for our child if he's a boy begins with an F and our surname is S so FS. My married initials are now BS. I honestly don't care

sageandbasil · 21/11/2021 20:29

I really don't think any one pays attention to initials. I'd leave it

Also it's more like dam aka water thing.

CheeseMmmm · 21/11/2021 19:51

Yes I think it's fine.

Damn isn't super commonly used here at least IME.

NaturalBlue · 21/11/2021 18:57

My initials are DAM it has never once caused any problems and I never think of it to be honest.

crimblecrumbles · 21/11/2021 18:39

@VanillaAndOrange

So long as you don't live in a German-speaking country where Damm means perineum!
OMG no way 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 I'm actually a Swiss duel national from a Swiss-German speaking canton (obviously don't speak it myself!).

Damm is the biggest beer company in Spain (Estrella Damm) although still don't think it's an issue. Giving her so many names is a bit unfair though! It's just a nightmare for paperwork

DietrichandDiMaggio · 21/11/2021 15:16
@DietrichandDiMaggio Because, very obviously Hmm when you read damm you read it in the same way as "damn", which is a swear word to a lot of people, whereas bamm, camm and famm are not.
But the word dam is used for various other things and is perfectly acceptable. Initials may be used for some things, but rarely said aloud.

Mandarinsatsuma · 21/11/2021 15:07

It's really not a big deal. I'd only be concerned if it spelled something like c*

AnFiadhRua · 21/11/2021 15:00

I wouldnt

DietrichandDiMaggio · 21/11/2021 14:58

@imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere

At work we use an internal database that identifies us all by full initials so I see my initials displayed every day, as does everyone else. Initials also used a lot at school. I don't think I could do DAMM.
But why? What is wrong with DAMM? Would DAM be okay, or would you have a problem if the first initial was a different consonant - BAMM, CAMM, FAMM etc.?
reallyisthisallthereis · 21/11/2021 13:35

My brother always wanted an A name for a middle name so is initials would be MAD. My parents didn't give him one for that reason. He may like being DAMM!

Myleo · 21/11/2021 12:59

I honestly don’t think it matters in the slightest. If you love the names go for it.

Timeforwinterclothes · 21/11/2021 12:55

In many jobs (especially in schools) initials are used for messages, pigeon holes and even internal emails. I've been (example) MOP and MP in different educational establishments. I'd avoid anything remotely embarrassing. Of course, those who chose to change names on marriage can find themselves with awful initials.
