Miranda

Rafaella was a fairly successful author in the early nineties. Semi autobiographical, and hints of Joanna Trollope. She lives in a old farmhouse in Suffolk, and was delighted to discover witch marks on the front door jambs.
She’s married to Piers, who is a wine dealer. Their three children have left home now, and Rafaella feels slightly guilty that she doesn’t miss any of them.
She sometimes goes up to London for the weekend to stay with her sister, which she enjoys, but is always relieved to get home to Piers and the woodburner, and the latest bestseller.

Sam lives with his boyfriend Mike. They have both just turned 40 and have been together for 18 years. They are not into the gay scene at all and met as students when they both did the same English degree at university.
They have loads of friends and love the countryside. They have 2 dogs and work from home as freelance editors.

Sam is of medium height and has a round but attractive face. He has warm brown eyes and looks slightly anxious at the moment. Sam works in IT in software development and is very good at his job and is decently paid. He is anxious because his wife Libby - who he met at university- gave birth to triplets four months ago and he feels as if he is living in a hurricane. He's trying to work out if they can afford some help at home with the babies and how soon he can go for a vasectomy because three children is one more than he ever hoped for.

Emma is 38 with very groomed hair and nails and a permanent air of slight disappointment that her life isn't as brilliantly successful as she was promised it would be. She's always worked very hard to compensate for not being particularly intelligent. She lives with her two cats in a very comfortable and tidy flat in Bexleyheath, and although the interior design does include a fair few "Live Love Laugh" signs she doesn't care as it's her sanctuary.

Alison likes to walk in the county with her dogs. She drinks too much, but only the expensive stuff, and eats the naive Christmas style shortbread all year round.
Her house is immaculate, always.

Pam has just turned 50 and celebrated by going away with her husband Paul. Paul is Pam's second husband. She met him whilst she was still married to Jeff, when he came to do some building work on her house. Pam is spoilt rotten by Paul. Her 2 kids from her first marriage are adults and live away. Pam works for an estate agents but is now part time. This allows her to spend lots of time at the gym and having her hair and nails done. She is very good at her job and makes all the staff cupped every day at 10.30. Pam is blonde and slim. She wears expensive leather boots and has a horse. Her house is always clean and tidy with a well kept garden. Recently Paul bought a hot tub which is instilled in their private back garden.

Pixie isn’t Pixie’s real name. She’s actually called Paula and is 40, a social worker, long term partner but no children. Her DP ‘Bez’ is in a band and Pixie sometimes sings backing vocals at gigs.
They have 4 dogs that take up all of their time and are spoilt rotten.

Lydia is a stuffy old spinster who enjoys reading dusty tomes in her run down cottage. She has no children and no husband and is perfectly happy thank you very much!

Harriets is on a gap year in Australia, drinking and shagging her way around the continent living her best life and posting pics up on Instagram for the girls back home.
Harriet is also 30 and having a quarter mid life crisis.

Rosie has soft dimpled hands and a generous bosom. She loves cashmere cardigans in buttery colours which look lovely with her caramel coloured hair. She's a giggler.

After her mother died, she gave in to her hoarding tendencies and now has a bungalow in Tenterden which is packed to the gills with copies of Metro and empty packets of Soreen. Her bedroom is so full of clothes she's bought at the local British heart foundation that she has to sleep on the sofa. Her cat hasn't been seen for several weeks now and Rosie fears he came a cropper under a teetering pile of shoeboxes in the study.

Emily is a fifteen year old girl, very confident and quite attention seeking. Likes to show off and be the centre of attention.

Niamh is a beautiful, intelligent woman of 25 who is bookish and academic and a bit socially awkward. Long curly brown hair and green eyes. She has a few good friends but isn't dating anyone and can't even begin to think how to meet a man who is as smart as she is. Not that she thinks that as she's quite anxious and low self esteem. She is utterly adored by her parents.

Jackie is 55. She has a salt and pepper no nonsense easy care hairstyle and is a martyr to her sciatica. She has never married, and never had a relationship with a man outside of a best forgotten fumble at a Polytechnic bar in 1984.

She has worked at M&S for years and is an absolute genius at Bra fittings. One glance from Sandra and she'll have you in a 34F soon as look at you. She's immensely proud of her skill and unfortunately carries it through to situations where she really shouldn't, like suggesting to women at bus stops that they should consider a smaller back size, or once- memorably- to the area manager's wife at the Christmas do that she needed an underwire 'to really perk up those bad boys.'

She lives in a downstairs maisonette in Sydenham with a red kneed tarantula called Mr Tickles, and a California Kingsnake called Absalom. Absalom escaped his tank in 2019 and was found by Derek (who lives in the upstairs maisonette) wrapped around his boiler in the airing cupboard.
Jackie was relieved to have him returned, but thought it wise at the time not to mention the existence of Mr Tickles, as Derek seemed traumatised enough at the time by the appearance of Absalom.
