Melanie is an extremely shy woman of 50, single and happy living with her 12 cats in a village in Dorset. She works part time as a librarian in her village library and enjoys buying cream buns from the bakery in the village every day. She's a bit overweight (those cream buns!) and has the same frizzy bob she had at school.

In secret she's a lesbian but she cannot think how to begin to pursue that side of herself, so she takes comfort in her small circle of great women friends. She's kind, extremely secretly generous to charity, and a quietly strong pillar of the community.

Sonia is a kindly 54 year old soul. Likes to go to the pub on a Friday and is often taken in by men looking for a good time, whilst she's looking for the real thing. She lives in a bed sit with her cat, Jones, and she watches all the soaps but none of them are as good as they used to be. She shops for two elderly neighbours and sometimes she buys herself a little something from their pension money. Not much. Just a half bottle. She does so much for them after all.

She has brown hair. Dyes it herself at home Would love to go to the salon but she can't afford that sort of thing with her wage from the corner shop. She sometimes treats herself from there too, if nobody's looking.

Julia is a beautiful lady in her early sixties. She has a light grey bob, wears gorgeous smart coats and lots of expensive fine jewellery. She lives in a modern townhouse in the city centre.

Danielle is 28 and a single mother. She has brown eyes, tight natural curls which she struggles to tame and dimples. Her 5 year old daughter is her double.

Gareth goes by Gary. He's in his late 40s and is a farmer in rural Yorkshire. He has very dark brown hair which is greying and is a grumpy man.

Danielle

Penelope is petite, in her early 50s and is an outreach worker. She's originally from the South East but went to university in Leeds and stayed there. Her colleagues call her Pen. She doesn't like this but she loves her job and really wants to make a difference. She likes WFH as she can tend more to her indoor plants and knows nobody will use her Ivory Cats mug that she's had from the 90s.

Gareth

Jenny is 45 and describes herself on social media as a “feminist housewife”. She has two children which she (not even humble) brags about most days on fb although secretly she’s exhausted by them and has significant, but she thinks, well concealed anxiety over.

Her husband Nathan, is a sweet soul but very much in her slightly militant shadow. Jenny is very left wing and very anti Brexit but tends to drone on about policy so most people tend to switch off. She’s on the waiting list for a local allotment so she can teach the children about growing broccoli. The children are not enthusiastic about this in the slightest and would rather play Pokemon.

JENNY.

Edwin is a sniveling, drippy Classics professor with a small, waxen, boyish face and a snub nose. Despite his dull appearance, Edwin is heedlessly arrogant and self-important and has long harbored an obvious, yet unaddressed bitter hatred of women stemming from multiple rejections in his schoolboy days. Edwin often wears patterned cardigans with strappy sandals and lords himself over others because of his slightly superior intellect. Oversized ego is demonstrably present in Edwin's huffy, stilted manner of speech.

Charlotte?

Edwin is 46 and completely nondescript. You'd struggle to describe him even if you'd been talking to him for over an hour. His personality is completely tepid. Maybe he has greying hair, cut slightly too short? It's difficult to say. His eyes might be grey, or they could be blue, or that sort of sludgy colour that changes shade with the light.

He's about 5 foot 10. Or is he? You thought he had a bit of a tummy, but then Edwin turned side on and almost disappeared. Best not to think about it any longer.

Luke is 26 and has just applied for the next series of love island one drunken night after his mates wound him up saying he'd be perfect for it. Luke secretly hopes he hears from the show and has started working on his pecs and 6 pack in his bedroom just in case but is now in agony as he's over done it. He's also in trouble as he's put more self tan on the towels than him and his mum has made him order her some more from Marks which he's no allowed to use when they arrive.

Paloma..
Unfortunately,paloma finds it hard to connect with people. She can be socially awkward as if she is in her own world a lot of the time, distracted even. Paloma parents are hippies and spoke herb and burn incense all day. Paloma wishes she had the courage to leave her current office job and follow her dreams of becoming a famous photographer.

Miguel is a 60-something intellectual who lives in a beautiful but crumbling Art Deco house in Santiago, Cuba. He's not quite old enough to remember La Revolucion but has lived with its benefits and limitations all his life. As a young man he trained as an architect but because of the embargo there was no work in this field, so he made do as a builder and by selling his quite impressive paintings to tourists. He writes novels, which can't be published because of the paper shortage. He sometimes wishes he'd taken a raft to Miami, but would his life really have been any better there? He'd probably have ended up sharing a one-bed flat with 10 other exiles and working as a dishpig. In Cuba he has his friends, music and good organic food.

Dave is quite tall and quite burly. He is balding slightly but still has a small amount of salt and pepper stubble. He works hard as a builder and is generally happy, though tired. He has 2 teenage daughters who he adores but who confuse him thoroughly. As a youngster he had quite a few young ladies, sometimes at the same time, but he has been happily married for the last 20 years. He is a friendly, gentle soul who watches the world go by with a touch of bewilderment. He secretly enjoys nothing better than reading romantic poetry by the greats, but he would never admit this to anyone.

Tallulah is 15 nearly 16, and calls herself Taz. She doesn't answer to the name Tallulah, her stupid mum is the only person who still calls her Tallulah which is just so stupid of her and it's her mum's fault for lumbering her with the stupid name in the first place. Tallulah isn't speaking to her mum at the moment, she can't remember why. Her mum has no idea why but she's secretly enjoying the silence.

Miranda is a very sweet but unorganized 30 something. She's always 20 minutes late to everything and can't keep a secret. She has a very big heart and loves animals. Everyone calls her Mandy.
