We want to use the a variation of the name Maria, but not Maria / Marie/ Miriam/ Mary. What are the useable variations of this name which are as close to Maria as possible?
I have found:
Marianna
Marissa
Marina
Marialisa
Marialina

I know there are others like
Anna-Maria
Maria-Louisa
However, I’m not keen on a hyphenated name, looking for a name that doesn’t have a hyphen in between.

Marianna best of those suggested.

I love Behind The Name for variations on names. Here you can see listed variants of the name and here is a 'family tree' showing where each of the variants derived from.

Marisa is a lovely name, I prefer the one "s" version. Pronounced Ma-ri-za

Mariella

I like Marissa best, but don't see what's wrong with Maria or Marie on its own.

Mia

Marisa (think this is Polish) and Marita (Dutch). Marianne is easier to wear imo than Marianna.

Maria is lovely though, I know a 9yo Maria and she totally pulls it off

Maryam, Mariette

I think Maria is lovely, and also like the Mariah pronunciation.

Marianna will get the Marry-A(r)-na pronunciation, whether you want it or not, and it makes me think of Marijuana

Marialisa and Marialina are try hard

Myra
Moira
Marnie
May
Marion

I think Marianna is the best out of all.

Also, I believe that traditionally in England the pronunciation of Maria was Mariah (as in Mariah Carey). Later, the European pronunciation was adopted.

Mariah may be an option?

EdgeOfACoin · 17/11/2021 10:49

Marine
Mara
Molly was originally a nickname for Mary (as well as Margaret)
Maribel?

I like Marianna and Marissa isn't bad either.
Marina, is where boats park
I don't think the Marialisa/ Marialina really flow correctly.
As in Marianna, would be said Mari anna. Marialisa would be said with a hyphen as in Maria - Lisa, I can't see how you'd say it other than that. I would pronounce them as two separate names I did however go to school with a Lisa Marie and I quite like that. That's what we all called her from the start of primary up, never shortened.
