@daisyjgrey

Do you also have a Paul Ringo?
You beat me to it!
Kite22 · 15/11/2021 23:56

The thing is, nobody actually ever says the first name and middle name, after the initial birth announcement.

He will be 'George Smith' not 'George John'

At his graduation (if he has one) and wedding (if he has one) he will be George John Smith, but in life, no-one will ever call him 'George John' so they don't need to have different initials or different amount of syllables etc.

It is a lovely name OP

*Obviously with whatever surname he has....which might not be 'Smith' for pedants Wink

My DS2's middle names are John George. We considered having them the other way round but felt it was easier to say them that way - not so many J-sounds colliding together!

Member589500 · 15/11/2021 21:36

George is lovely. John is lovelier.
Doesn’t matter what they sound like together as needed body cares about middle names. I filled out a form for my friend of 30 years the other day and had to ask what her middle name was!

mellicauli · 15/11/2021 21:31

Yeah..I thought Beatles.And then , who'd put dippy George ahead of genius John?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/11/2021 21:28

@iwouldcastrateyouandmarryyou

And Hmm to the Beatles reference. That's a bit of a reach
I’m sorry OP but when I saw your thread title my immediate thought was ‘Paul Ringo’.
Elisemum · 15/11/2021 20:07

Both very nice names OP but don’t sound good together at all… it’s the “Jo” sound at the begging of each and one syllable- just doesn’t flow at all.
However it’s not aweful and like you said you won’t be saying both at the same time anyway so if you like it then do it

I have a George Jonathan. His grandfather was John but we thought George John was a bit short. His other grandfather was William, so I think George William John is a perfect choice!

IVflytrap · 15/11/2021 13:10

I think George John is absolutely fine as it is. Especially nice as John is an honour name for you. He will be George day to day, the majority of his life people won't use his middle name, so I don't think the fact that his full name doesn't sound quite as flowy as some other name combos is a big deal.

Holly60 · 15/11/2021 12:45

George William John is really nice

George John is also fine

George is a lovely first name

Doesn't sound fantastic together to be totally honest given the matching consonants and syllables but you love both names and as you say, how often is a full name used aloud? It's absolutely fine, two really good, solid names. Definitely thought 'Beatles' too but that's no bad thing!

iwouldcastrateyouandmarryyou · 15/11/2021 11:29

@Forestcantrun

John is such a great name. Could he be John George?
Not sure that solves the problem?

@Angel2702

I have a George James and have never needed to use his middle name out loud other than when announcing his name.
My son already has James as his middle. It's such a lovely name!

@Tal45

I agree with having another name in there if you want it to run better. George William John is very nice.
That is lovely. And my husbands grandfather's name js William so... does make sense

But, more suggestions please. You never know!

OP posts:
iwouldcastrateyouandmarryyou · 15/11/2021 11:28

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule

I’d have another name in between. I think it sounds much better to break up the repeating sounds, and more interesting than two monosyllabic names.

Names entirely randomly picked and not necessarily specific suggestions:

George William John

George Alfred John

George Benedict John

George Philip John

You get the idea...

Again, agree.. but I have two middle names and it's always annoyed me. Plus my son only has one middle name and feel like they need to match in numbers.

God. I'm fussy!

I agree George Jonathan does roll better but I dislike Jonathan and it isn't my grandfather's name, sadly!
