Hi,

I'm due a baby boy next week and we still haven't picked a name. My husband has Scottish heritage and so a couple of the names are influenced by that. His middle name will be Wentworth as it is a family name and our surname begins with H.

Options so far are:

Vincent
Brandon
Conrad
Reuben
Kieran
Cameron
Fraser
Niall

We have scoured through a million lists and these are the best we can come up with, so please noone say they're all rubbish! Which one would you choose out of these?

Absolutely love Niall!

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 11/11/2021 21:56

Fraser

BingBongToTheMoon · 11/11/2021 21:03

Oh I like the anagram thing!

CloseYourMouthLynn · 11/11/2021 20:02

@ScotsMumOf4

My ds is kieran but with the spelling ciaran. Out of the rest I would say fraser. Not a fan of the rest
We like that Ciaran spelling but it's an anagram of our daughters name, Carina so we can't do it that way!

Vincent - no, Vince and ~ Vinnie are not great
Brandon - no, seems dated
Conrad - fine
Reuben - a bit nothingy
Kieran - a bit 1970s
Cameron - don't like Cam
Fraser - like
Niall - like but is it Nigh-l or Nee-l?

WeasilyPleased · 10/11/2021 22:42

I have the loveliest friend called Conrad so that's my vote.

FindingMeno · 10/11/2021 22:31

Fraser or Reuben

Keladrythesaviour · 10/11/2021 22:29

I think Niall Wentworth H is a gorgeous name. Otherwise Fraser!

DramaAlpaca · 10/11/2021 22:28

I'd choose Niall, Vincent or Conrad.

Fraser is quite nice too.

I don't like Brandon at all.

DotDotDotDotDot · 10/11/2021 22:01

I like Fraser from your list.
Least favourite is Brandon.

BellaVida · 10/11/2021 21:58

Fraser gets my vote! I also like Fergus and Finlay.

Thanks all, might have to tally up the votes, looks like Reuben and Fraser are the winners so far.

EekGoesTheBaby · 10/11/2021 21:26

Congratulations! My vote is for Reuben (which my autocorrect just changed to "Revenge" Hmm).

WinterCarlisle · 10/11/2021 21:24

Reuben - brilliant name

Pumpkinsonparade · 10/11/2021 21:22

golddustwomen · 10/11/2021 21:20

Oh definitely Reuben!! Absolutely love it.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 10/11/2021 21:19

@Pumpkinsonparade I like Hamish but our surname begins with H and might be too much.
My daughter is called Carina and so although we do like some names beginning with C I'm less inclined to go with one of those. Boys names are tough!

@IamnotwhouthinkIam, thanks for the suggestions.

I'm really glad I asked, I think Fraser might be the winner at this rate and I don't want to ask anyone in RL incase we change our mind or we get an eyebrow raise.

Pumpkinsonparade · 10/11/2021 21:15

Hamish is the best Scottish boy name imo!

Snooptheboot · 10/11/2021 21:14

Cameron or Kieran

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/11/2021 21:11

If you are Scots heritage, it's no contest for me: Fraser - I love it, despite generally not liking "surname" names.

The others either sound more Irish than Scottish to me for some reason (Niall, Kieran) or I hate the nn's ("Roo", "Cam", "Vinnie"), Conrad sounds a bit fusty to me and I find Brandon slightly 90's, sorry.

My other fave Scots boys names if it helps are Alistair and Laith (and Magnus but that's more Latin/Scandi I suppose). Brodie and Lewis also have their charm if you like surname/place names.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 10/11/2021 21:11

@BingBongToTheMoon hadn't come across Alisdair, one to ponder thanks!

@dementedma I suggested Lachlan but was vetoed!
