Which boy name - help, he's nearly here!

Hi,

I'm due a baby boy next week and we still haven't picked a name. My husband has Scottish heritage and so a couple of the names are influenced by that. His middle name will be Wentworth as it is a family name and our surname begins with H.

Options so far are:

Vincent
Brandon
Conrad
Reuben
Kieran
Cameron
Fraser
Niall

We have scoured through a million lists and these are the best we can come up with, so please noone say they're all rubbish! Which one would you choose out of these?

Vincent - I quite like Vincent, it's definitely growing on me, Vince is ok but I hate Vinnie

Brandon - not a fan at all

Conrad - love it. I also really like Cormac which is similar

Reuben - love, it was on our list and I love NN Reu. It was just too popular for us (and we had girls)
Kieran - nice enough
Cameron - like it
Fraser - not a fan
Niall - not a fan

I think my top two would be Vincent (assuming I could avoid Vinnie at all costs) and Conrad

lunarlandscape · 12/11/2021 18:01

I love Cameron best from that list. All the Camerons I know are lovely.

ValentineC · 12/11/2021 17:49

I like Cameron best.
My cousin lives in Scotland and her boy is Logan Rory.
Good luck!

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 12/11/2021 17:29

I have a Fraser, it’s a great name! People do tend to write it as Frazer though, which is annoying

SleafordSods · 12/11/2021 16:53

Cameron, Conrad or Fraser would be my first choices. Niall is good but I'm not keen on the others.

nannybeach · 12/11/2021 16:48

I would also have to know the meaning of these names

MMM2 · 12/11/2021 16:47

Cameron .

Pawprints2017 · 12/11/2021 16:46

Reuben

CloseYourMouthLynn · 12/11/2021 16:46

@Esspee, my husband is Graeme and my FIL Stuart!

Esspee · 12/11/2021 16:27

Congrats. I would wait until baby is here and see if he suits Fraser which is the nicest of your favourites.
Did you consider Stuart or Graham?

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 12/11/2021 16:14

Vincent ok
Brandon quite like
Conrad love
Reuben like
Kieran not keen
Cameron not keen
Fraser not keen
Niall like

From your list Conrad, Niall or Reuben

Chunkymenrock · 12/11/2021 15:59

Cameron is fab.

SirChenjins · 12/11/2021 15:51

Oh no Sad

Someone on MN will name their baby Magnus - I’m not leaving this Earth until they do

MerryMarigold · 12/11/2021 15:49

I really like Cameron

CloseYourMouthLynn · 12/11/2021 15:46

@WalkingOnSonshine I also like Cormac but my husband said it reminded him of caramac 🙄

@SirChenjins, I knew a horrible Magnus at uni! This is why names are so hard!

OP posts:
SirChenjins · 12/11/2021 15:22

Cameron, Reuben or Fraser - good, strong, classic names.

Or Magnus - best name ever!

WalkingOnSonshine · 12/11/2021 15:20

Love Conrad, that was on our list alongside Lachlan and Cameron.

We went for Lachlan instead.

I wanted Cormac but DH vetoed it!

CloseYourMouthLynn · 12/11/2021 15:18

Thanks all, I've found boys names so hard!

@VenusClapTrap, we have a good friend called Duncan so might be a bit strange!

OP posts:
VenusClapTrap · 12/11/2021 14:58

Conrad! Love it. I’d avoid Reuben - they are two a penny.

Duncan?

TatianaBis · 12/11/2021 14:25

Conrad or Cameron. Don’t like the others.

Fraser’s ok but a bit meh. Reuben is awful.

LizzieAnt · 12/11/2021 13:39

Fraser and Ruben for me too, but I also love Kieran (this is Scottish to me; wouldn’t the Irish be Ciaran?).

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads
There are loads of Kierans in Ireland, I know many aged in their 40s and 50s...it has declined in popularity over the last 30 years though. It's just an anglicised version of Ciarán, which is also used, with and without the fada. In parts of Ireland they're pronounced a little differently from each other, in other parts they seem to be pronounced more or less the same.
I'd agree with OP that I wouldn't use Ciaran with Carina though!
I like Niall too, also Irish as well as Scottish, and also like Fraser and Cameron, which are more uniquely Scottish, I think.
Fraser does remind me strongly of Frazier the tv show, but that's probably because the name isn't really used here and that's my only exposure to it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/11/2021 06:33

Fraser and Ruben for me too, but I also love Kieran (this is Scottish to me; wouldn’t the Irish be Ciaran?).

The TV show was Frazier

Peachbubble · 12/11/2021 06:32

Another vote for Fraser.

MrsBertBibby · 12/11/2021 06:27

Conrad, by a mile. Love it!

Reuben a very distant second.

Actively dislike Brandon.

RAFHercules · 11/11/2021 23:40

I like Fraser, then Niall.
Don't really like Brandon (except Flowers of course).
