The popularity of traditional names increases with the age of the mother.

Phelim, possibly. I like Rowan too.
If I had a son I'd probably call him something more common like Ben or Sam.

@toastofthetown

It's interesting to me that James is so popular on this thread, but it has been declining in popularity for years. It will probably drop out of the top 25 names for the first time since records began when the 2021 name data is released.
Agree with you, I wonder if it's specific to the Mumsnet demographic that a lot of the faves mentioned on this thread could be considered classics. But then many of the most traditional boys names (ones that have pretty much always been in the top 50 - like William, Thomas etc as well as James) are gradually declining in popularity. With the exception of George and Henry it seems that many of most timeless names are dropping down as a lot of people seem to want something "different" than the past generation or two.

Btw (like quite a few others in this thread) my favourite boys is William - as well as being timeless, it's vast popularity years ago means he'll have some fantastic namesakes, from "the Conqueror" to Wallace to Wilberforce to Shakespeare...

I’ve got a Reuben of my own. He’s nearly 49. We were well ahead of the trend when we named him.
Our friends had just got a guineapig. Other friend had to dash round and tell them they couldn’t call it Reuben as the Trickies had just named their baby that.
I have sometimes said to Roo, ‘“We nearly called you Rupert”.he always says ‘Thank God you didn’t, mum.” (apologies to any mums with Ruperts, I love it even if DS doesn’t )

WinterWeightlossGoal · 10/11/2021 20:31
