I've heard of a Marigold that goes by Goldie and thought it was really nice. What are your thoughts on Marigold with the nickname Mary?

ILoveShula · 09/11/2021 09:45

Anusol, sorry

ILoveShula · 09/11/2021 09:31

Marisol sounds like Anusoil.

TataMamma · 09/11/2021 09:13

@raintropics

I do really like Marisol. Never heard of the Rubber gloves so don't think that would be a problem where I am.

I like uncommon names but don't want to use one that comes off as try hard or weird. Thanks you for your opinions, I appreciate them! Smile

Ask anyone over a certain age, or at least any woman, and there'll defo think of the clothes.
TataMamma · 09/11/2021 09:11

I think of cleaning toilets.
If it's Mari you want, then just called her that. It's actually the Welsh version of Marie, although can be short for any number of other things.

Lemonsyellow · 09/11/2021 08:51

Yes, I like it rather a lot. Churchill’s daughter, Downton, etc. Rather posh vibes from that time.

yikesanotherbooboo · 09/11/2021 07:25

I certainly think it sounds current and if you are a nature name lover then it has an appeal.
I wouldn't go with Mary as a nn though. Mary is one of my favourite names and doesn't need help.
Mari as in the Welsh name would work much better.

Doidontimmm · 09/11/2021 07:06

Goldie is what everyone used to call their goldfish when I was young!

gemloving · 09/11/2021 06:58

It reminds me of the pair of gloves I need tk clean the bathroom. Sorry if this sounds cruel but it's just the truth 😔

PieMistee · 09/11/2021 06:57

Where's me Marigolds?

orangejuicer · 09/11/2021 06:55

I actually like it, with Mari as nn.

BulldogDrummondBass · 09/11/2021 06:51

Winston Churchill had a daughter called Marigold.

It was quite popular in the early 20th century; probably why they used it in Downton Abbey.

myheartskippedabeat · 09/11/2021 06:33

@AdaColeman

No. Only use it if you’re naming a dairy herd.
🐮 mooo

I agree
Fine for a cow
Not for anything else

Kanaloa · 09/11/2021 01:30

It’s okay. I don’t know if maybe it’s my pronunciation but wouldn’t the nickname be ‘marry’ rather than Mary? I do think Mary is a lovely name and it’s a shame there aren’t more little ones around though!

Mwnci123 · 09/11/2021 01:20

Rubber gloves.

Kitkat151 · 09/11/2021 00:25

It’s a bit ‘Downton Abbey’

DoodleBelle · 08/11/2021 23:51

Lovely as a middle name but I think it would be a brave choice as a first name. Don’t think Mary works as a nickname…Goldie is fun but also seems a bit like a dog name.

Love it... a sunny name

CamQ · 08/11/2021 23:36

Rubber gloves here too I’m afraid.
How about Marisol?

DramaAlpaca · 08/11/2021 23:36

Mary is lovely. Marigold is try-hard.

campion · 08/11/2021 23:35

It reminds me of a discussion about names in The Sloane Ranger Handbook:
"We christened her Marigold and hoped that she would!"

Viviennemary · 08/11/2021 23:27

I like it but its just too out there. Ok if you're a rock star. Reminds me of a Tales of the Unexpected. The Blue Marigold Girl. It was quite good.

stealingbeauty · 08/11/2021 23:23

No. When I saw this title I thought you were asking about the rubber gloves.

RavingAnnie · 08/11/2021 23:21

I like it too.

timeisnotaline · 08/11/2021 23:17

I like it, I need a girls name in a few months so have spent a lot of time looking at them! I work with one and think it’s a lovely name but I don’t like Goldie, and would almost certainly get Maz here which I don’t think I can handle.
