All along I’ve liked two names …

Matilda with nn Mattie or Tilly

Esme with nn Essie

Which do you prefer?

Matilda nn Mattie or Tilda

RuthW · 08/11/2021 12:08

Esme as long as you say ez-me and not ez-may otherwise Matilda.

Miracle29 · 08/11/2021 10:08

Matilda such a cute name

VenusClapTrap · 08/11/2021 10:06

Esme. Matilda is massively overused. Dd is friends with five.

ilovemykids5 · 08/11/2021 09:41

I actually prefer Tilly as a stand alone name.

halloweenie13 · 08/11/2021 03:59

My sister's name (she'd 10) is a variant spelling of Matilda, but please not Tilly it's tacky, we call her tilda like tilda swinton. Tilly is overused and not great. I like Esme but it's so short I would just use Esme

ArsenicNLace · 07/11/2021 22:59

Esme. It really doesn't need a nickname.

wildasthewind · 07/11/2021 22:58

Matilda beautiful

Marimaur · 07/11/2021 22:40

Matilda, Tilda is a cool nn.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/11/2021 20:43

Matilda by far. I'd go for Mattie as nn as cute and less common than Tilly/Tilda

Esme is OK though.

Kite22 · 07/11/2021 20:31

No point in giving Esme a nn. It has the same number of syllables. Why change it ?

So either Esme as it is, or Matilda are fine. Not Essie though.

SnowdropFox · 07/11/2021 20:15

Matilda. Agree with pp that giving Esme a nn is pointless. Both may end up with a completely unrelated nn anyway.

MadeOfStarStuff · 07/11/2021 19:30

Definitely Matilda

Esme is ok but don’t like Essie and don’t see the point of it as a nickname

Sarcobaleno · 07/11/2021 19:28

Esme and using Esme. Don't like Mattie or Tilly but Matilda is ok.

finallychangedmyusername · 07/11/2021 19:24

I like both but prefer Matilda. My favourite nickname for Matilda is Milly/Millie.

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/11/2021 19:23

Matilda, lovely name.

TattySlippers · 07/11/2021 19:22

Matilda

Newuser82 · 07/11/2021 19:21

Matilda and mattie!!

WildCherryBlossom · 07/11/2021 19:19

Matilda! I do like Esme but the ambiguous pronunciation (esmee / esmay) puts me off using it as a first name. Use it as a middle name instead.

Owlink · 07/11/2021 17:16

Matilda is a beautiful name.

lisaandalan · 07/11/2021 17:14

Matilda or Tilly. X

AdaColeman · 07/11/2021 17:13

Matilda with the nickname Mattie not Tilly as it's getting really popular.

bekindbekindbekind · 07/11/2021 16:56

I prefer Esme, but don't like Essie.
