It's fine

JennyDune · 11/11/2021 00:16

Its okay.

Sounds like an 80s action hero name.

Also, theres Axel Foyley from Beverley Hills Cop.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 11/11/2021 00:15

I love it! Gorgeous name!

The car part is an axle and the Guns 'n' Roses singer is Axl but that's not his real name in any case.

EishetChayil · 10/11/2021 18:40

Awful name.

Wellington17 · 10/11/2021 12:52

LOVE IT, however I went on a German exchange at school where there was a German boy called Axel and all the Germans teased him as Axel is pronounced the same as the German word for armpit "achsel".

Onaloop · 08/11/2021 21:35

I really like it! It was on our list but my husband preferred another name. I live in europe and its a pretty normal name is france and germany

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 08/11/2021 20:40

Rob McIlhenny and Caitlyn Olson have a son named Axel I think.

I like it, but don't like that it could get shortened to Axe...

RosieLemonade · 08/11/2021 20:30

@GoodnightGrandma

Love it ! I think of the son from The Middle.
I was going to say the same thing.
sageandbasil · 08/11/2021 14:04

Ooh lots of positive comments this morning!
@Feelingofftoday thank you for apologising that was big of you.

@GoodnightGrandma when I heard it on the middle years ago I really didn't like it. Can't believe im considering it it's just really grown on me and there's something about it I really like

Thank you everyone for your feedback xx

Axel is fab! It was on my list too. It doesn’t sound great in my accent though (Glaswegian and I kind of pronounce it like ax-oh?!) so I took it off, reluctantly!

Heruka · 07/11/2021 21:55

I probably would have said it’s awful until I recently met a wee baby Axel and changed my mind, very cute.

BlueberrySugar · 07/11/2021 21:46

I like it.

AliceMcK · 07/11/2021 21:46

@GoodnightGrandma

Was just going to say this, I love The Middle. Not sure I’d call my child Brick though 😂
Turtles4543 · 07/11/2021 21:44

I know of one Reception age, south east

Chunkymenrock · 07/11/2021 21:44

@MondeoFan

Can't believe all the rude people on here. I like the name. I guess you could choose Axl or Axel.
Eh? OP asked for our thoughts, not for a bunch of strangers to fake adoration.
Edenember · 07/11/2021 21:43

^^ Above was to @Feelingofftoday

Edenember · 07/11/2021 21:42

That’s really big of you and I mean that sincerely.

MondeoFan · 07/11/2021 21:33

Mamascoven · 07/11/2021 21:30

Love it. It was our boy name but we are having a girl 😊 If you like it I think definitely go for it.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/11/2021 21:13

Axel sounds like a dish, doesn’t he? I imagine someone physically gorgeous, who is also well read and intelligent. Go for it!

Yes. He had have strong tanned forearms and sit in his (original) Eames chair reading philosophy and doing a bit of smouldering.

DemBonesDemBones · 07/11/2021 21:10

@Feelingofftoday wow, a mumsnet first-apologising for a comment! I genuinely really respect that.

Edenember · 07/11/2021 21:10

I like it spelled Aksel, just to visually get away from the car part thing (my brain rearranges Axel to Axle). Aleph and Ansel similar sounding alternatives.

Orphlids · 07/11/2021 21:08

I feel a bit embarrassed for the people on this thread who are scoffing about the name Axel, as though the OP has just made it up. It’s a fabulous name, OP, which works well internationally, but has no pronunciation problems in the UK. I think it’s quite a sexy name - Axel sounds like a dish, doesn’t he? I imagine someone physically gorgeous, who is also well read and intelligent. Go for it!

Feelingofftoday · 07/11/2021 21:08

And yes, the get a grip thing was tongue in cheek but it probably came across horribly and I'm sorry for that too

Feelingofftoday · 07/11/2021 21:07

You know what, I was wrong.

Thank you to pp for pointing out it's a Scandinavian name.

I was thinking purely of Axl Rose and the connotations there so I was being ignorant in my comment and I apologise.
