I'm due a baby in March (so could be born in April though unlikely) can I use the name April. Or is it only for babies born in that month?

I think it’s perfectly fine.

I just don’t like month names when they suggest the baby was conceived in that month..! Grin

AliceAldridge · 08/11/2021 17:32

My Auntie June was born in July Grin

moofolk · 08/11/2021 17:31

I have known Aprils, Mays, Junes and an Augusta and I don't think any of them share the name with their birth month.

When I was a child I assumed that my Aunty June was born in June but I got over the strangeness of it pretty quickly after I found out she wasn't.

If you like the name, go for it.

KirstenBlest · 08/11/2021 17:22

@Irishfarmer, Avril really isn't nice

May was a form of Mary

SleafordSods · 08/11/2021 17:18

I'm sorry I've just know too many that have been shortened to Ape. Has really ruined it for me.

Irishfarmer · 08/11/2021 15:23

@KirstenBlest lol, I never would have made that connection! I know that most of the letters are the same but I think the A v BO at the start make a huge diff. Probably not a name I would choose, as I prefer Irish names but still pretty sounding.

Twizbe · 08/11/2021 13:30

I don't like month names that aren't born in those months. I know one April born in jan so conceived in April ....

RonSwansonsChair · 08/11/2021 13:17

I know a May who was born in August, also a June who was born in August, and an Avril (April in French) who was born in December- so I would never assume you're born in the month that has the same name.
If you like the name April, go for it.

KirstenBlest · 08/11/2021 13:11

Avril is awful. It sounds like Bovril

Irishfarmer · 08/11/2021 10:25

I wouldn't be a fan of it, I would tend to assume those people are born in that month.

But overall, I don't think it would be a big deal. I might ask her if she was born in that month, but once she said no I probably wouldn't think of it again.

How about Avril? I think that's a lovely name,

VenusClapTrap · 08/11/2021 10:08

It’s fine. April is a beautiful name.

TSSDNCOP · 07/11/2021 20:30

I agree. My nana was May, my auntie is June and my niece is April. Guess which months they were born, everyone's been a smart Alec all their lives.

Elisemum · 07/11/2021 17:29

Absolutely fine, wouldn’t cross my mind to ask April if she was born in April. It’s just a name like any other name and a lovely one too.

midsomermurderess · 07/11/2021 17:24

No one will know, or care, except a few people close to her, what month she was born in.

Gillyx · 07/11/2021 15:02

I actually prefer month/season names that are not in the correct month or season. It seems too on the nose! It looks like I’m in the minority so far though!

Strangevipers · 07/11/2021 14:06

Lovely name and doesn't matter which month your DD is born

viques · 07/11/2021 13:56

You could call her Avril, then no one would know.........

Grasshopper90 · 07/11/2021 13:53

My grandmother is June and her birthday is in September. Don’t think anyone expected she was born in June.

I love April and was on our list for DD.

NuffSaidSam · 07/11/2021 13:50

I'm baffled by people who think children have to meet the definition of their name.

Do you think Seren was born on a star? Or Luna on the moon?

I think the idea of naming a child after the month/season they were born in is more odd than just picking a name you like.

DPotter · 07/11/2021 13:47

I knew a child called Summer who was born in March. Still confuses my simple mind

PermanentTemporary · 07/11/2021 13:41

I know a June not born in June which I do find a bit odd if I'm honest, but it's a lovely name and I keep my opinion to myself!

Isolateykatey · 07/11/2021 13:40

April is a perfectly lovely name for a girl born any month of the year.

Same as any other month names. My friend actually had a May last month. didn’t even occur to me that it wasn’t ok in October!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 07/11/2021 13:37

It wouldn’t even occur to me that an April would or should be born in April.

It’s a lovely name too.

Definitely go for it.

EileenGC · 07/11/2021 13:34

Go for it. I would never ask an April if she was born in April, would never make the association.

LemonViolet · 07/11/2021 13:32

It’s just a name now, it’s fine. I’ve never asked when any of the April/May/Junes that I know birthdays are, because that would be rude out of context anyway. Go for it.
