What do we think of Donald?

I ask because I know a miserable Donald who blames his name for a sorry old life. Obviously there will be lovely Donalds about but is it going to make a comeback along with the other older style names. I don’t like the sound of the name although McDonald as a surname sounds fine to me. I had a Ronald in my class at school and always felt sorry for him and for Donald. Is it still used in Scotland?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I am Scottish. I know of only one child named Donald and he is in his teens and calls himself Don now.

TBH when I hear Donald I think Trump or Duck.

sageandbasil · 07/11/2021 11:56

Awful name sorry op

ILoveShula · 07/11/2021 11:54

I quite like it

Skysblue · 07/11/2021 09:08

No, sorry. The associations are Donald Duck and Donald Trump.

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/11/2021 09:01

I actually really like it, Douglas is better though.

However, Trump means I'd look at anyone who used the name in a very different light.

PeterPomegranate · 07/11/2021 08:59

I think Donald would be ok even with all those associations except for Donald Trump. He’s ruined it for me. Now it just makes me think of The Donald.

Cissyandflora · 07/11/2021 08:53

Ha that video made me laugh. Maybe it’s a name that can’t be cool. Not even Donnie.

@Gingerkittykat

Are you Scottish?

I'm sorry but I just think of song every time I hear the name Donald!

Hahaha Stuart Anderson if I remember rightly he must be about 40, wonder what he thinks of those videos now? I bet he wishes they'd disappear off the face of the earth! Grin
RosieLemonade · 07/11/2021 07:52

Donald Glover?

Paperyfish · 07/11/2021 07:10

My fil is a Donald. Comes from a long line of Donalds. They picked a different name for dh!

BernieBaby · 07/11/2021 06:03

Say Donald, think Duck or Trump. No, no, no, no, no!

Cissyandflora · 07/11/2021 05:03

The Donald I’m thinking of wasn’t named after anyone- parents just liked it for some reason. He detests it and always has done.

Redsparklybucket · 07/11/2021 00:58

It’s my sons middle name after his great grandfather I like it because of the family connections, wouldn’t have picked as a first name tho!

Lockdownbear · 07/11/2021 00:37

It's up there with names like Derek and Dennis, will make a come back at some point.
I don't think I've met a child called Donald ever, 🤔 I imagine any Donald's would be called after their Grandfather.

Chocaholic9 · 07/11/2021 00:34

Awful. Will always remind me of Donald Trump.

colouringindoors · 07/11/2021 00:31

No. No. No

Donald Trump.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 07/11/2021 00:30

Don Draper definitely brought it some cachet.

Throughabushbackwards · 06/11/2021 22:19

@RiaOverTheRainbow

Ten years ago it would have been fine, but I think it'll be a while before it's usable again.
Ha I actually hadn’t even thought of Trump! That’s just added another level. I do think of ‘where’s ye troosis’ though. I’ve tried to think of it as being possibly cool- Donnie osmond was cool at the same generation as my Donald - but somehow no one can make it sound ok for me. It’s the sound of the word I think.

Trump.

ShinyMe · 06/11/2021 21:34

I think it's too soon from Trump.

But thinking about it, I knew a Donald at uni in Scotland and he was LOVELY. He is a kilt wearing fire juggling unicycle chap.

lots33 · 06/11/2021 20:45

Showing my age now but it makes me think of Donald ‘Flathead’ Fisher in Home and Away!
