No reason except I remembered this name for some reason. Has anybody ever used it? I rather like it.

I love it.
I've never read Jilly Cooper, but I do love a little Shakespeare Wink

minipie · 09/11/2021 16:42

I like it but it would likely get shortened to Lice.

Classica · 09/11/2021 16:42

It's a bit ott and flowery for me but there are worse names.

Namely Horace.

CatsArePeople · 09/11/2021 16:27

Nice. Also like Lycander

Handsnotwands · 07/11/2021 10:30

I love it and wanted it for DS but DH said “but it’s a plane. And it’s a shit plane too”

Disclaimer: I know nothing about planes but the implication was it is a bit like calling him Dacia or Lada

goteam · 07/11/2021 10:12

I would only use it if you are very familiar with A Midsummer Night's Dream and a fan of it. You are going to get lots of people referencing it if your child is called Lysander.

VenusClapTrap · 07/11/2021 10:04

Yes, I ruled out all those names as being too long and unwieldy too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/11/2021 09:52

It's not that long. Benjamin, Christopher, Nicholas, Alexander, Nathaniel, Jonathan - all just as long, or longer. Eight letters. It's growing on me. Fortunately, or otherwise, my years of fertility are long gone so I can't inflict it on a child.

I love it, but it’s a bit long and unwieldy.

UndeadSlut · 06/11/2021 22:03

There's a Lysander in the series of books I'm reading to my 9 year old at the moment. He gets Sander as a nickname.

CampagVelocet · 06/11/2021 22:00

Bloody love it. Gorgeous.

Esspee · 06/11/2021 21:56

Sounds like lice and her. Whenever there is an outbreak of nits he'll get the jokes aimed at him.

squee123 · 06/11/2021 21:52

I love it, but also think it sounds a bit like a product you'd use to clear up a nasty case of lice

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/11/2021 21:50

@Melroses

British Grenadiers.
Yes, that's been running through my head too since this popped into my mind.

Far too brave a naming choice for us, decades ago when our son was born!

Lovely!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/11/2021 18:23

Lovely imo and screams Shakespearean (so many people will think it's "classy" - which is better than the alternative Smile). But it's quite unusual and therefore a bit "brave" I think, especially as the obvious nn's (if he's not keen on the full version) either aren't very nice: "Ly" or slightly feminine: "Sandy" - maybe he could get "Anders" at a push?

Similarly uncommon Evander might be easier if classic Alexander is too popular for you.

AlexaShutUp · 06/11/2021 16:06

I love MND, but personally, I think Lysander is a bit much. Grin

inmyslippers · 06/11/2021 16:02

It's a beautiful name

Ughmaybenot · 06/11/2021 16:01

It just reminds me of the hopeless case from Jilly Coopers book. He’s not really someone I would name a baby after, altho I appreciate that’s not really what you’re asking Grin
It’s not a bad name, but it sounds almost a bit reptilian?

DukeofEarlGrey · 06/11/2021 15:52

Love it. I am a Shakespeare nut though.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/11/2021 15:51

I love it but I’m not brave enough to use it

toastofthetown · 06/11/2021 15:51

I love Lysander. It’s my very favourite boys name. I think the nickname Sasha is gorgeous too. Sadly my DH won’t go for it.

Melroses · 06/11/2021 15:04

British Grenadiers.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/11/2021 15:01

A hero of our times... [another Jilly fan] Great name, and Sandy/Sander are cute nn for little ones

rrhuth · 06/11/2021 15:00

Too Jilly Cooper for me.
