I like it, DH is unconvinced.

Possibly for a rabbit. For a child - no.

Not sure which one is the 'best name ever'. Is it Horatio, Horace or Racey? Since you named him Horatio, I'm thinking that. OTOH if he's known as Horace, maybe that, in which case, why isn't that his official name?

BTW you can't have a 'best name ever' as my choices are definitely superiorGrin
Grin

We evidently both have superior taste.

I went for Horatio as his birth cert name (though he has always been known as Horace) because I love both names. If he wants to revert to Horatio, he can. I'm not so keen on Racey - that has come from friends, along with Horrie.

Udouhun · 07/11/2021 14:11

What about Hubert? Hubie is sweet

@campion he's universally known as Horace, though. Or occasionally Racey. Still the best name ever.

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba I love the idea of a 'best deep voices' list. I used to fancy the man who did the adverts when the utilities were privatised by Margaret Thatcher. No idea what he looked like or who he was, but his voice was quite something. Grin

@TheGreenManIsFlashing
well, you should know better about nest of vipers then!😁

I do like Horatio but only because of David Caruso's role in CSI Miami. (He is on my "best deep voices" list).
If anyone ever introduced the as "I'm Horatio" I'd find it hard to stop myself from referring to Lt. Caine.

JumperandJacket · 07/11/2021 00:33

Horace - no.

Horatio- very much yes.

Horace
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/11/2021 23:26

....and our friend Maurice/Mike is middle-aged - not a baby now in 2021.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/11/2021 23:25

I think we can wait a while for a Maurice comeback and I'm not sure Humphrey is ready to be resurrected just yet.

We have a friend called Maurice - I only know that because I saw an official document of his once. He goes by a different name - not in a 'Maurice, generally known as Mike' way but his name is recorded in all walks of his life as just 'Mike' (not his actual known name, but you get the point). He detests his real name - Maurice - and has said that he would have changed it officially to 'Mike' but for not wanting to upset his DM. After she has gone, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he goes ahead and does it.

And imho, Horace is significantly worse than Maurice. It instantly brings to mind words like horrid, horrible, horrendous, horror, horrific - lots of common, very unpleasant words. Personally speaking, it'd be a firm No from me.

Holidaytan · 06/11/2021 23:00

@Tsuro yes! On the Finchley High Road! Always friendly, although he could turn nasty on occasion. I think he died a few years ago now.

campion · 06/11/2021 22:48
@campion, you have no taste.

My taste was not to inflict Horace on my sons. I think they're happy with that!
Besides, your son is actually Horatio.

WeasilyPleased · 06/11/2021 22:39

Grim.

HoraceWorblehat · 06/11/2021 22:09

Ook

whattodo2019 · 06/11/2021 21:56

I much prefer Horatio

TheGreenManIsFlashing · 06/11/2021 21:48

@campion, you have no taste.

My son likes his name, btw.

campion · 06/11/2021 20:44

@TheGreenManIsFlashing

And, OP, you will regret it forever if you don't go for it!
No you won't. Nor will your son.

@MrsSkylerWhite I'm being a bit arch, but I am absolutely not taking the piss!

However, I've been on MN since Horatio was born (which is a very long time ago), so I'm not going to take anything too personally. I can cope with the vipers' verdict. Grin

inneedofchocolate · 06/11/2021 19:47

Nope!

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2021 19:47

@MrsSkylerWhite

Well - I was thinking of my son (Horatio, known as Horace)!

Was tempted to call DD1 Horatia, but thought that might be overkill (though would have done it, had I not had a boy first).@BlowDryRat

See, now I’m conflicted. Is she taking the piss or not?

In which case, my reply has to be Horace/Horatio/Horatia ate glorious, stalwart, fantastic.

Or

F**king awful.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/11/2021 19:45

@TheGreenManIsFlashing

Bunch of meanies, that's what you are.

Horatios/Horaces are fab.

@TheGreenManIsFlashing

are you new?
the correct term is "nest of vipers"

UndeadSlut · 06/11/2021 19:44

No. I'm sure that the little Horaces on this thread are adorable, but it is definitely not a name I would use.

Mind you I said that about Arthur and Amos before I worked with them...

The Horatios and Horaces that you live no doubt are. (Do you really know Horatios and Horaces? That’s quite unusual)

Would you enjoy being called either, though?
