I really like words that have “ts” sound in them, like tsunami, any ideas for names?

@BakeOffRewatch That's lovely. Best of luck!

I forgot about this thread, thank you so much for the suggestions. That website is amazing @RiaOverTheRainbow www.behindthename.com/names/sound/ts,tz Just copying it here again for my own benefit!

@TheYearOfSmallThings I think my DH might mind if I considered marrying a Greek man Grin

I’m finding I am loving Hebrew names @ladycarlotta, they are so pretty and layered with meaning and stories, the roots of the words are usually old enough to apply cross several languages as well. Tsivia is beautiful @mellicauli, thank you. It means “swift deer” and has great values attached to it. You might just have named my second! Or @OrangeAndYellowAndBluewith Tsila.

Thanks everyone!

I had a lovely Swiss colleague called Letitzia.

Tsufit is lovely.

I think you'll find quite a few Ts names in Hebrew, as well as Greek and Japanese, as others have suggested.

PersephoneJames · 05/11/2021 14:19

Look at Basque baby names - it’s a very common sound.

Alaitz, Arkaitz, Aritz, Amets, Enaitz, Larraitz, Egoitz, Arantzazu…

Or Sortzi (means eight!) or Bederatzi (nine!) - no idea of the spelling though!

Look here, there's loads, and you can narrow it down by country, meaning etc.

Clementine is on the rise in popularity so why not Satsuma?

It's more like tz'n ami

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2021 13:34

The T isn't silent if you say the word in the japanses way. Guess what, it isn't Soon Army

NowEvenBetter · 05/11/2021 13:32

You didn’t clarify what noise it is you like in ‘tsunami’, is it the silent T, or the S noise?

TheSpiral · 05/11/2021 11:02

I’m learning Russian, the Russian alphabet has a letter for ts or tz - ц if that works. Like in tsar. So there are may be Russian names with that sound although I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2021 10:55

Tsetse

Sassymcsasserson · 04/11/2021 23:56

Only name I can think of with a t and s sound is Tamsin. Probably not what you're going for though sorry.

@BakeOffRewatch

Ok wow did not see this coming, I think it a completely reasonable request, albeit uncommon in UK, hence why I made the thread. It would be middle name material for us, but no reason why it couldn’t be first name. This thread is almost as bad as the Bohden thread I read, which is a perfectly common name in a few different languages!

I’ve met a Moritz (German) and a Tatsuya (Japanese) before and really like it. I’ve always loved “z” words in German which are pronounced with an edge like “ts”.

I love the Hebrew name Tsila, it means shade from an initial google, thank you @OrangeAndYellowAndBlue!

What about Zenzi? It’s a German name (short for Kreszenz).

There’s a character in a children’s tv show called Tsuni. She’s a mermaid that works in a comic book shop.

SkiingIsHeaven · 04/11/2021 23:36

Tzatziki

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/11/2021 23:33

Would you consider marrying a Greek man (eg Tsauossis, Tsinides) and having the sound in a surname? That way you get Ts in your name too.

PiesNotGuys · 04/11/2021 23:32

Itzela
Itzhak

Itza apparently means moon goddess but all I can hear are confusing conversations when you announce, it’s a girl, Itza.
