this is a name that I have recently fallen in love with after a hearing a mum shout her little girl Honey in the park...

I'm honestly obsessed with it and love it!! What do you all think x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@PlanDeRaccordement

Call her Miele (pronounced May-lee). It means honey.
I think the household appliances brand rules that one out
WallaceinAnderland · 03/11/2021 16:44

Ugh think of all the men who will legitimately be able to say 'ok Honey' in a really patronising way. A name like that for an adult is like a pat on the head.

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 03/11/2021 16:44

Honey is lovely. A beautiful name. Use it. Add a flower for the middle name.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 03/11/2021 16:42

It makes me think of Honeychile Rider in the James Bond film......

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

I think it's batshit crazy

you might as well name her Sweetheart, Dear or Treacle and watch her head spinning every time some sexist, misogynistic, mansplaing arsehole addresses a woman in a condescending, patronising manner

don't do it.

This, to put it mildly. When your daughter is an adult managing some uncooperative fuckwit who doesn't like 'having a woman over him', you're handing him a weapon. If you need reminding, rewatch all the scenes in Blackadder Goes Forth with all the 'Darling' jokes.
bothjetplanes · 03/11/2021 16:41

No, I think its quite a sexualised name. Its a name I imagine quite sexist men calling their current 'girl' or wannabee girl.

emmathedilemma · 03/11/2021 16:40

@SpangoDweller

Good name for a Labrador puppy. Not great for a child.
This!!
FindingMeno · 03/11/2021 16:40

I like it

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/11/2021 16:37

@myheartskippedabeat

celebrity baby names are a good start: Tu Morrow, Kal El, Pilot Inspektor, Moon Unit and Audio Science

then search for weirdest baby names and you'll find: Lucifer, Awesome, Kingmessiah, Marijuana, Window (one with the middle name Coverings), Author, Judge, Singer, Doorman, Phelony

then there are the nice try no cigar attempts: Nutella, Burger King, Hitler, Facebook and Cyanide
🤣

parents, eh?

Mamamamasaurus · 03/11/2021 16:01

Honey as a nickname - fine. As an actual, birth certificate name - hell. No.

TuftyMarmoset · 03/11/2021 15:54

Oh honey… that’s a terrible name.

AuntDympna · 03/11/2021 15:53

As a family only nn for Honora, Honor, Hana, Melissa, Melina, Rosamel, Pamela, Pamina, Lonicera, and Mel.

I would find it really awkward to use Honey as a name and I would call her Miss Surname instead.

Pinkchocolate · 03/11/2021 15:47

I agree with above, don’t do it!

myheartskippedabeat · 03/11/2021 15:46

@Blubells

Not much different to Teddie 🐻 used for boys these days....

Honey and Teddy would work well together

If you were naming your teddy bears

What is wrong with people?

Exactly Is there a a-z of the most stupid names some people read???

Much different. Teddy can go by Ted or Theo, normal sounding names and appropriate for an adult.

Honey goes by, what? Hon?
Just ridiculous to do that to a sweet innocent baby.

JudgementalCactus · 03/11/2021 15:15

Yikes! Why don't you want your daughter to have a chance at being taken seriously in a professional job one day?

You might as well buy her stripper shoes and cover her in glitter!

TopTabby · 03/11/2021 15:13

Not for me, does anyone remember Honey G from X Factor?

Monday55 · 03/11/2021 15:11

It's a No from me. Your child will spend most of his/her years on earth as an adult. Sounds cute for a baby name but not an adult name.

Fl0w3ry · 03/11/2021 14:57

Honey is a character on Eastenders and she is an extremely ditsy person, almost child-like, probably why the name was chosen for her.
I would say no. Maybe give it to her as a middle name instead so it’s an option you can use or she could agree to in the future.
In the world we live in now I think the name would stand out for all the wrong reasons. She would also be known as ‘hun’ - the word every patronising person on SM use for each other.
