this is a name that I have recently fallen in love with after a hearing a mum shout her little girl Honey in the park...

I'm honestly obsessed with it and love it!! What do you all think x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Miele is pronounced me-luh in German, meel in French. Not aware of any language where it would be pronounced May-lee!

Bimblybomeyelash · 03/11/2021 17:22

I think it’s too cutesy and babyish. Less awful but similar:

Bonnie
Harmony
Dulcie
Elodie

Seems unfair on the child who will one day be an adult.

Also it sounds like a surname so you'd be saddling the child with conversations like "no, I said your first name for this bank form" for the rest of her life.

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 03/11/2021 17:13

There was a Honey at a baby group I went to about 18 years ago. She had strawberry blonde hair, I thought it was a lovely name for her.

2bazookas · 03/11/2021 17:12

Years ago in the school where I taught, there was an utterly obnoxious brat called Melissa who liked to boast that her name came from a goddess of honey and means "Little Bee".

Little B became her nickname, but not in a good way.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 03/11/2021 17:12

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

I pronounce Miele as mee-la as that's what the appliance peeps say.

Top notch hoovers by the way. Beats those crappy Dysons.

Ooh, good to know. I am over my Dyson.

Our Miele dishwasher is brilliant.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 03/11/2021 17:11

There’s a Honey in our neighbourhood, poor child. Her parents seem normal, too.

It really, really, really lacks substance.

If you want her never to be taken seriously in life, by all means, give her a name like that.

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/11/2021 17:08

@JudgementalCactus
Yes you did reference the appliance brand name by quoting it...

Call her Miele (pronounced May-lee). It means honey.

I think the household appliances brand rules that one out
..........
Plus that's not how it's pronounced”

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/11/2021 17:07

However you pronounce it, it’s still a pretty name.

Honey Boo Boo?

Hummingbirdcake · 03/11/2021 17:01

No.

JudgementalCactus · 03/11/2021 16:59

@planderaccordement, huh? What's german got to do with it?

It's an Italian word (if you want the honey meaning). Pronounced me-eh-leh.

Honey is a gorgeous name, and I'm sure she will have a very successful career as a burlesque dancer.
with her sister Mona Lott

But….that’s not how Miele is pronounced. Me-Elle.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/11/2021 16:50

Miele
🤣

but a good idea to use a name that means honey!

Melissa means honey in Greek (I'm 97.8% sure it's Greek)

Timeforwinterclothes · 03/11/2021 16:49

@Fl0w3ry

Honey is a character on Eastenders and she is an extremely ditsy person, almost child-like, probably why the name was chosen for her. I would say no. Maybe give it to her as a middle name instead so it’s an option you can use or she could agree to in the future. In the world we live in now I think the name would stand out for all the wrong reasons. She would also be known as ‘hun’ - the word every patronising person on SM use for each other.
Honey was her nickname. Her real name (in the programme) was Susan.
JudgementalCactus · 03/11/2021 16:48

@HazelandChacha

Makes me think of Honey Boo Boo, although Honey wasn’t actually her name.
Even that horrible woman knew better that to choose that name officially for her child! Says a lot!

My old pe teacher called her baby honey because the baby had honey coloured hair. Super cute but I wonder how well it works as an adult.
