Stuck between two!

Hi all,

My hubby and I are almost set on calling our baby girl Delilah. We both really like it and think that it's a pretty name. Plus a lot of you probably know the song Hey there Delilah. One of the lyrics is "what's it like in New York City" and we just realised that we want to name her Delilah, and we got engaged in NYC. It just gave it more special meaning.

Our second option is lorelei, which we also love but I think I might be leaning towards Delilah more. We can always save Lorelei for baby number 2 if we have another girl in the future.

Thoughts? Which one do you prefer?

Delilah is a lovely name, definitely my favourite of the two

@Hoowhoowho

To be fair, the story of Delilah is not much better than that of Lorelei!

Both perfectly fine names but associated with negative stories.

We know the story of Lorelei now, but I don't think I know the story of Delilah? I really should do more research 😅

@Hoowhoowho that's true!

Delilah.
I really don't like Lorelei though.

missalpacca · 31/10/2021 21:44

@DramaAlpaca

Delilah by a very long way.

I'm sorry, but the other option is awful - do you know about the legend, where she lures sailors to their deaths? It's a creepy association.

I've never heard of this! 🤔 Thanks for the info, maybe I didn't do enough research beyond how it sounds 😅

@PrivateParty

Delilah. Not sure how you pronounce the other one..
Seems like this one may cause some confusion!

It's pronounced Lor-el-eye 🙂

Delilah wasn't exactly a delightful person either, but if you like the name so what!

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 31/10/2021 21:29

Delilah is a lovely name! Lorelei isn't tbh.

timoteigirl · 31/10/2021 21:26

Both lovely and magical but go for Delilah, a strong female name.

@SummaLuvin

why why WHHHYYYYYYY Delilah
My friend sang this exact line when I told her we were thinking about Delilah 😂

We're not telling anyone else until baby's here, but my mum loves Tom Jones so I think she'll approve 😅

Definitely Delilah, love that song Smile

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/10/2021 21:11

I like both, though slightly prefer Lorelei personally, but it sounds like you love Delilah so obviously go with that

SummaLuvin · 31/10/2021 21:06

bekindbekindbekind · 31/10/2021 20:57

Delilah

Narnianoon · 31/10/2021 20:52

Delilah is so much nicer. Lorelei just reminds me of that tv programme, not keen on it.

Thepennysjustdropped · 31/10/2021 20:51

I love the name Delilah. Also Tallulah. Not keen on Lorelei - sounds like an American burger bar waitress.

NannyR · 31/10/2021 20:50

Delilah, definitely!

BrutusMcDogface · 31/10/2021 20:50

Unanimously Delilah! I also love the relevance of NYC. My kids love hearing the stories of how they got their names Smile

FlamingoDust · 31/10/2021 20:48

Delilah

Pieceofpurplesky · 31/10/2021 20:34

mawkthestork · 31/10/2021 20:29

Delilah, it's nice it has that personal meaning behind it too

TheBeautifulSouth44 · 31/10/2021 20:17

Delilah sounds perfect!

EileenGC · 31/10/2021 20:17

I prefer Delilah, it’s a very pretty name.
