Teddy James (Last name) Opinions??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 29/10/2021 07:46

It's a hard no from me

Edward or theodore as first name.
Both go nicely with James.

cptartapp · 29/10/2021 07:45

Teddy Sherringham? Yeah, still laughable. So contrived.
Edward yes, James definitely.

thewhatsit · 29/10/2021 07:43

Teddy is pretty much my most disliked name these days.. mainly because it’s just everything that is a 2010-20s name - ie cutesy and twee - but taking it to the absolute max. I don’t think you can get more cutesy than Teddy. As a nickname for a toddler of course it’s fine, but I would not want to be a 14 year old gangly Teddy or a grown up Teddy. I can’t imagine calling DH or any of his friends Teddy.

It’s v popular (you’d have to combine about 2/3 of the Edwards and Theodores with Teddy in the ONS charts to see the right number). I know of a number of them but what I find interesting is that half of them are already just “Ted” and this seemed to happen around 3 years old (so it’s the parents changing it).

itsgettingwierd · 29/10/2021 07:42

Another who loves it but would give Edward as name on BC.

MydogWilloTheWispEvilEdna · 29/10/2021 07:41

For those who say it's odd for an adult, Teddy Sheringham?

I can imagine an adult Teddy James as an actor or designer, sportsman, solicitor. Actually anything tbh. I love it.

A family member has a very strong celtic name which we initially thought was a bit out there for a baby. He is in his twenties now and it's never actually been odd through any stage of his life. We couldn't imagine him with any other name. Isn't that always the case?

Bobbybobbins · 29/10/2021 07:39

We have a Teddy James but he is Edward officially.

SoupDragon · 29/10/2021 07:39

Not Teddy. You're naming an adult, not just a baby.

LynetteScavo · 29/10/2021 07:39

I love it.

Twizbe · 29/10/2021 07:37

I love James.
Edward James or Edmund James sounds great with Teddy as a nickname.

I know an adult Teddy. He's Edward officially and as soon as he got to uni he introduced himself to everyone as Ed. It's only those of us who've known him since primary school that still call him Teddy.

Teddy is cute for a child but not a grown man.

CallMeRisley · 29/10/2021 07:37

@Orphlids

I wouldn’t enjoy introducing myself as Teddy if I were a fifty years old man. Much too cutesy. Also, it’s so overused. Little Teddys everywhere, just waiting to grow up and feel a mild sense of resentment about their name.
A grown man can be Ted though, lots of older men are called that.
Lockdownbear · 29/10/2021 07:33

No you can't have a man called Teddy, imagine going through school with thatBlush.
Even in nursery I can see confusion with actual teddies 🧸, lower primary it might work, later primary he will outgrow it.

I could actually imagine it getting ditched altogether or becoming Bear 🐻.

drpet49 · 29/10/2021 07:33

Teddy isn’t cute for a baby yet alone a child.

PieMistee · 29/10/2021 07:28

The Teddy I knew changed his name to Edward (know as Ed ) at 15 and never changed it back.

MydogWilloTheWispEvilEdna · 29/10/2021 07:24

Love it. Has a really good flow to it.

GoodnightGrandma · 29/10/2021 07:23

My nephew was Teddy (from Edward) and we had Ed and Ted in the family.
He changed to Edward in primary school as he hated it.

RussianSpy101 · 29/10/2021 07:22

My friend just called her baby this! It’s lovely.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 29/10/2021 07:21

I like it.He will get called Ted as an adult.I agree with other posters though.Give the longer name Edward so he has the choice.I've done that with my daughter.Never uses the longer version of her name but she likes having it. As do I with my name.

PinkMoon22 · 29/10/2021 07:18

@LittleLottieChaos

I only hear ‘Teddy’ in the voice of Mr Bean…
😂 this made me laugh!

I love the name Teddy, but agree I can't imagine calling an older man it

polkadotpixie · 29/10/2021 07:11

Theodore James or Edward James are fine and you can still call him Teddy but he won't be a baby/toddler forever and he needs a name that will work as an adult too and I don't think Teddy alone does

I always think of the pub test...if his mate shouts across the pub 'Teddy, mate...do you want a pint?'...if it sounds ridiculous then it's not a name that is suitable for an adult!

ChipsNCurry · 29/10/2021 07:04

Teddy is not a name for an adult.

Far too 'cutesy' for my taste - even for a baby.

LittleLottieChaos · 29/10/2021 07:02

daisypond · 29/10/2021 06:07

No, I wouldn’t inflict that on a child. Teddy is a soft toy or an item of underwear. Give him a proper name.

user1477249785 · 29/10/2021 02:42

I love it. Yea know a 50 year old 200lb Teddy and it suits him brilliantly so I don't agree it's a name you outgrow

Aquamarine1029 · 29/10/2021 02:15

Teddy as a full given name for a grown man is awful. Your baby won't be a baby forever.
