Concerns over the name Felix

The only name me and my partner both really like is Felix. In fact we love it. The only thing is I’m so worried he will get bullied because of Felix the cat or Felix cat food. I know kids can be bullied for any reason but I don’t want to give them a reason to bully him. Has anyone got a child called Felix or knows of a child called Felix? Do other kids pick at their name or associate it with a cat/cat food?

We have a Felix in the family and he has never been bullied because of his name despite a relative insisting that he would be. He’s a teen now and loves his name.

Felix is a gorgeous name I love it

Felix is a top 100 name now so I think you're overthinking here. I've not heard of the cat connection in a million years to be honest. If someone mentions it (which I highly doubt) I don't see it as a particularly negative association anyway?

Felix is a popular name. It's at #77 in England and Wales and still rising. The cat food is a non issue really.

I also don't think that that children are bullied because of their names. A popular, confident kid can pull off any name, whereas a less 'cool' child can have any name turned around to tease them.

I've known a lovely little Felix, never thought about the cat food till you mentioned it AND I had a dear cat (rest in peace) fed with that 10 years ago

OldTurtleNewShell · 27/10/2021 20:57

It's a lovely name and it didn't occur to me to think about cat food until you mentioned it. Go for it!

WonderfulYou · 27/10/2021 20:55

I know a Felix and to be honest I do think of the cat food but I still think it’s a great name.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 27/10/2021 20:53

It’s a very popular name at the moment !! I know 5 kids called Felix ranging from 2 months old - 5 years

There are also 2 at my child’s nursery

Really i wouldn’t worry about the felix the cat thing 🙈

Wonderful name!

I walked in an all boys school and have taught quite a few boys called Felix . I have never heard it to be a problem for any of them .

drpet49 · 27/10/2021 20:35

Cat food

BalloonSlayer · 27/10/2021 20:33

I have known a couple of Felixes over the years and both have been lovely, wonderfully characterful, people.

SparklyGlasses · 27/10/2021 20:30

It's lovely and I know an 8 yr old Felix in a school context and have never heard any issue over it.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 27/10/2021 20:28

DS is called Felix and this has never happened, not even once. I don't even think he knows the cat food exists. That might have been a thing 15 years ago but not now.

Use it, it's a great name - strong, lovely meaning, travels well! Go for it.

Luzina · 27/10/2021 20:26

I know a few (including a close relative) and not heard of any cat food based bullying

Twizbe · 27/10/2021 20:24

I know 4 that are under 3. It's very popular where I am.

I don't think the cat thing will matter for this generation. There will be so many Felixes around.

KittenKong · 27/10/2021 20:20

My brother has a critter name - we made full use of this. It wasn’t always affectionate...

Yika · 27/10/2021 20:20

It’s a beautiful name. I know a young felix. I would never think of the cat food because the name is a strong and well known nsme in its own right.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 27/10/2021 20:18

My friends brother is called Felix. We called him Cat Food for years. But it was an affectionate name not bullying.

KittenKong · 27/10/2021 20:15

I’ve known a couple of little Felixes and they weren’t bothered with the name. It has a nice meaning. I’m sure someone, somewhere will hum ‘felix the cat’ or mention cat food - but lots of name have potential for jokes (and these aren’t exactly terrible are they?).
