with the 'tine' to rhyme with 'fine', or to rhyme with 'bean'?

So like Cleh-men-tyne or Cleh-men-teen?

Worked at a hospital named after Churchill's wife and the official name was Clem-an teen. Everyone called it the Clem or Clemmie though

Synchrony · 27/10/2021 14:41

Teen. I've only heard it pronounced Tyne in the oh my darling song.

Shasha17 · 27/10/2021 14:31

I think I prefer it to end with "teen" too!

Although I do like both ways.

As for nicknames, I'm not sure. Let them emerge naturally (or not, as the case may be!)

However won't you shorten it to Clemmie

I really wouldn't. Clementine is beautiful and easy to say.

Blubells · 27/10/2021 13:53

Fine

Mouk · 27/10/2021 10:26

Fine

CaMePlaitPas · 27/10/2021 10:26

To rhyme with "teen". As a pp said, "tyne" sounds like they should be warbling that oh me darlin' song with a banjo.

JellyTotCat · 27/10/2021 10:25

Oops sorry. Yes wrong thread

NewSB · 27/10/2021 10:24

I think this is a beautiful name Smile To rhyme with bean. The audio pronunciation from the link below might be useful for you. Whichever you choose, your baby will have a fab name.

daisypond · 27/10/2021 10:23

Teen - as in the way Churchill’s wife Clementine pronounced it - to rhyme with Josephine, Christine, etc.

MarineBlue33 · 27/10/2021 10:23

To rhyme with bean.
However won't you shorten it to Clemmie?

zafferana · 27/10/2021 10:21

Difficult one - the name (AFAIK) is pron. tyne, but the mini orange is pron. teen. Therefore, it will be consistently mispronounced. If it's going to piss you off, I suggest you go with another name, or just called her Clemmie.

Dollywilde · 27/10/2021 10:20

I think you're on the wrong thread @jellytotcat (I only realise as I've just posted on that one too!)

@sassbott I don't know but as I said the kids who cried on being left for weeks/months in in my children's classes had been to nursery and there have been plenty of examples people have given of kids settling in fine after being at home, so it's not as simple as Stay home til 5 = children's will struggle
Go to nursery = child will settle in fine
The kids in Our Yorkshire farm all start school at 5 after no nursery and seem to settle in fine

mrsevangelina · 27/10/2021 10:08

Tyne

Peachbubble · 27/10/2021 10:06

Fine/Tyne

ArtichokeAardvark · 27/10/2021 07:12

Bucking the trend - prefer it to rhyme with bean. Ie, French pronunciation rather than American (oh me darrrrling clementyyyne)

Lime37 · 27/10/2021 07:10
