If you weren't in the UK and were raising your children in a country where The Little Mermaid wasn't well known, would you consider Ursula a usable name?

Is Susannah pretty, or dated?

Do you prefer Beatrice or Beatrix?

Do you prefer Cassian, Caspian, or Cassius?

Thank you Smile

I like Ursula, a good strong name.

I'm not keen on Susannah nor the various diminutives.

I think Beatrice is a prettier sound than Beatrix, and I'm not keen on Trixie as a nn.

I don't like any of the boys' names.

HeronLanyon · 23/10/2021 12:56

I like Ursula. Also Susannah but a bit less. And prefer Beatrice.
Caspian (sea!). Cassius so connected with clay - not fond is any of those three.

MrsMop1964 · 23/10/2021 12:48

Ursula to me will always be Ursula Brangwen from the novel Women in Love. I like the name.

crumblebug · 23/10/2021 12:38

I don't mind Ursula
Susannah is lovely
Prefer Beatrice to Beer-tricks
Cassian is my favourite, then Cassius, and I don't like Caspian (sounds 'crispy' to me!)

timoteigirl · 23/10/2021 12:36

Ursula a good name anywhere - strong connection to bears, what about Ursie?

Susannah a classic. YES

Beatrice okay but too popular for me
Beatrix - Dutch royalty.
What about Bellatrix?

I prefer Caspian
Cassian meh
Cassius Clay connection

LadyGAgain · 23/10/2021 12:36

Ursula - evil sea witch and Ulcer
Susanna - without the H. Beautiful name.
Beatrice - twee
Cassian is lovely. Don't like Cassius and Caspian feels a bit try hard.

IVflytrap · 23/10/2021 12:25
  1. Yes. It means "little bear". It's a cute name on a child and a strong one on a woman
  2. Pretty. Susie is a sweet nickname.
  3. Beatrix
  4. Cassian

Ursula is useable but I’m not personally keen on the look or sound of it

Susannah is pretty, you may get some dated comments but I think it’s refreshing

Love Beatrice, although both are nice

Caspian of those choices

daisypond · 23/10/2021 09:30

Love Ursula. It’s a great, strong name. Little Mermaid wouldn’t occur to me. There’s no such character in the story.

Susannah is also great. I do know a toddler one.

Beatrice is better than Beatrix.

Cassian. Cassius has “slave name” associations - and famously the boxer changed his name because of it, and that would put me off it.

stillonthattightrope · 23/10/2021 09:15

I know a lovely Ursula but it wouldn't be a name that I'd choose for my own child.

I grew up with a Susannah who was really mean which would put me off. To me it's a very 80s name.

Love the name Beatrice and it's on my short list. Beatrix is harder sounding which I like less.

I think I prefer Cassius.

elfran · 23/10/2021 08:48

I live in the UK and love Ursula- in fact it's pretty near the top of my list should I ever have a second DD.

Susannah is lovely, reminds me of a series of children's books I had as a kid.

Beatrice and Beatrix both nice, slightly prefer the former.

Caspian for me; I just like the sharper sound.

RavenclawsRoar · 23/10/2021 08:12

Well I live and teach in England and have taught two Ursulas (both English) so I think it's fine. Actually a very elegant name.
Susannah I like too, I think it's pretty.
I'd go for Beatrice over Beatrix but not as nice as your first two choices. I like Cassian best from the rest of your post.

ParmigianoReggiano · 23/10/2021 08:04

Ursula - quite nice
Susannah - lovely
Beatrice but not keen on either
Cassian

AutumnLeafy · 23/10/2021 08:03

I think its the Urgh sound I don't like

EdgeOfACoin · 23/10/2021 08:02

Ursula - usable. Reminds me of the character in the novel Life After Life by Kate Atkinson

Susannah - the full name is nice, though the nickname Sue is dated and I find Susie a bit twee.

Beatrice - a classic name that I prefer to Beatrix.

I like Cassian and Caspian. Not keen on Cassius - it sounds a bit try-hard.

alpinerain · 23/10/2021 08:02

I feel horrible saying this but Úrsula just sounds like an evil person to me, regardless of the little mermaid association.

Susannah is old fashioned but I really like it.

I absolutely love both Beatrice and Beatrix! Beatrix would be my pick.

I really like Caspian but not a fan of Cassian or Cassius.

FelicityPike · 23/10/2021 08:02

Ursula…I would research how popular it was in that country (Denmark?) it’s an alright name.

Susannah…decent enough.

Beatrice.

Caspian.

AutumnLeafy · 23/10/2021 07:51

Ursula - I don't really like it.

Susannah - nice

Beatrice or Beatrix- Beatrice

Do you prefer Cassian, Caspian, or Cassius? I hate all of them sorry. Cassius if I really had to.
