Mateo or Luca for our baby boy? Name needs to work well in English and Spanish..

Both lovely, but there are quite a lot of Luca and Lucas around, whereas I don;t think I have met a Mateo.

I went to school with a Spanish Luc (not Luca) - pronounced like Luke. He was rather lovely!

Mateo. Luca is one of those names that’s overused by British parents aiming for an exotic link and is cringey. I’d avoid it.

My nephew is Mateo and we don't know any others. His name isn't shortened to Matt, we do call him Teo but a lot of people do say Mateo. I like both options.

If recognising Spanish heritage is important to you, I'd go with Mateo as Luca has become popular with British parents so less likely to be associated with duel heritage.
