I was really shocked that Ralph was down 14 places and is at 95 on the ONS chart. I thought it was really popular. I love Ralph but I was put off by popularity but it seems to not be the case? How many do you know?

Agree with above. Ralph=penis for me thanks to Judy Blume

I reckon most 40ish women will draw the same connection. Sorry Op! 🍆

crunchypeanutbutterontoast · 21/10/2021 15:12

I like the name, but there is an instant connection with that Judy Blume book for me - maybe because it was banned at my school it became a big deal!!

Wasn’t there a Ralph in the muppets? I think he was the pianist!

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 21/10/2021 15:05

Makes me think of Ralph Wiggum
"My cat's breath smell like cats food".

Ralph
MonkeyPuddle · 21/10/2021 14:58

Yeah it’s slang for vomit for me as well.

As in ‘he proper ralphed up after 7 shots’

Darceyhemingway · 21/10/2021 14:57

@Aquamarine1029 in what way?

Aquamarine1029 · 21/10/2021 14:56

Ralph is just awful.

Darceyhemingway · 21/10/2021 14:55

@bloominglovelyorange I was so surprised! I can't believe it's dropped down so much as well. I thought it would be top 30/40 at least. My sister works in a nursery and I've just asked her and there's none in her nursery either which is interesting

@Marelle isit? Ive never heard of that 😂

okay it's less popular than I thought thank you. The associations so far haven't worried me so so far so good.

I was also surprised about Ralph. @Darceyhemingway - one of the biggest surprises from the statistics for me.

Whataday21 · 21/10/2021 14:49

Just Blume probably popular for us in our 40s. It will always be the name of a penis.

Marelle · 21/10/2021 14:46

None. It’s a slang word for vomit.

JellyTotCat · 21/10/2021 14:42

Dd is 14 and has one in her year at school

WaltzingToWalsingham · 21/10/2021 14:41

I dont know any human Ralphs, but I do meet quite a few dogs with this name! It seems to be fashionable for pets at the moment, which may be something to consider. On the other hand, pet naming trends pass much more quickly than human ones, so in 15 years or so, there probably won't be any canine Ralphs around.

Darceyhemingway · 21/10/2021 14:29

@charityshopchangingbag I just did a mumsnet search and everyone was saying about her but I haven't heard of her so I don't have that connection. What age group would associate the name with that do you think?

Thanks my husband was against it from the start but he said it can go on the shortlist which is progress!

Nope dont know any, know several baby Rory, Rupert and Rubeuns but no Ralphs its lovely

Spidey66 · 21/10/2021 14:28

@charityshopchangingbag

Judy Blume has forever tainted the name Ralph with that bloody awful euphemism in that book of hers
Me too.

In a similar vein, my mum always referred to a poo as 'a bobby' e.g. 'have you done a Bobby' and if I'd had a baby boy, while I like Robert, Rob and Robbie would never consider Bobby as a name. I dont know if i coukd ever call a child Robert jusff in case....

None. I like it too.

breadfortea · 21/10/2021 14:19

None, but I love it.
