Indi or Rose

Due in March,
Either of these names goes well with the names of our current children, I've loved Rose for ages, but DH has come round to it seeing Stacey Solomon's name choice Hmm

Which is your preference and what middle name would you put with it?

Thank you 😊

We have one of the most common surnames and when we had our first daughter there had been a child with exactly the same full name that week too! All I keep seeing is rather lovely pictures of Stacey's baby but then perhaps this is specific marketing because I'm pregnant? Thank you feel r all the helpful feedback, it seems Indi is definitely more polarising than Rose.

I know 4 Rosie’s, 2 born in the last month, 2 Rosa’s and a Rose.

@NewtoHolland we have Rose as one of two names for our new arrival due November and I get the worry about people thinking you've copied Stacey Solomon with Rose. I don't follow her and not a fan but friends are and my worry is I'll be spending the first few months bating comments of "o, like Stacey" or thinking it's a good solid, hardly used name and she gets to school and there's 5 others Rose's in her class.

FindingMeno · 14/10/2021 08:03

I refer Indi to Rose but both are lovely.

SirSamuelVimes · 14/10/2021 07:58

@daisypond

I wouldn’t worry about Stacey Solomon. She’s hardly hugely famous. Even if she was, most people aren’t going to know the name of her child - I didn’t. And Rose is a standard, normal name, not a wacky celeb one. And while it has been used a lot as a middle name, it’s not common as a first name. I don’t know a single one.
Agreed. I vaguely know Stacey Solomon (I know her name and that she's some sort of celebrity/influencer?) but had no clue of her baby's name.

I have a Rose and she rarely meets another one. It's at the 'there is another Rose in a different year at my school" level, not 'there are three girls named Rose in my class' level.

Middle names don't really matter beyond the baby name announcement stage - I have no idea of the middle names of DD's classmates. Or most of her cousins actually!

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 14/10/2021 06:50

Rose is beautiful, one of my favourite names

Thank you all, still churning it over. DH not keen on Rose as a middle name.
Happy to have Rose with Rosie as NN while little. Was thinking about the Rosie's I have known, not all graceful but each suited the name so that makes me less worried that that could be a problem.
I do get that Indi could look like a mispelling, Like the a or e has been missed off. India I do think is pretty but the whole Katie Hopkins thing put me off it a few years ago. I think there will be a big spoke on Roses now because of Stacey Solomon which is a bit annoying as I've liked it for ages. My daughter whose name was in the Top 20 has no other with her name in the school and my daughter with the rare name has 2 in her nursery class and another that sounds the same but is spelt differently! You can never tell I guess. I'm not worried about being hugely unusual but prefer them not to be one of twenty in the school at secondary, just feels more practical.

I like India Rose, you could abbreviate to Indi.

Darceyhemingway · 13/10/2021 18:22

Indi rose flows really well!

Darceyhemingway · 13/10/2021 18:22

Indie for sure

AosSi · 13/10/2021 18:21

Rose is far more elegant and classy, imo. I do like Indira nn Indi - I know one - but not as a standalone name.

CarbonMonoxideParty · 13/10/2021 18:19

Sorry hadn't realised I already posted the same 😳

CarbonMonoxideParty · 13/10/2021 18:17

@NewtoHolland

I'm interested in Indi not being seen as a proper grown up name. I can imagine a Professional Indi, one of my tests for a name.
I really couldn't take an Indi seriously. Same as poppy, daisy, etc.
mumofthemonsters808 · 13/10/2021 16:21

I like them together it’s a lovely name.

campion · 13/10/2021 14:27

Indi to me looks like the 'a' was left off.

Rose is much nicer and not that common for a first name. She could be Rosie, if you like that 'i' sound, as her everyday name.

It Is true that rose is very well used as a middle name for this generation. It's like Louise or Marie for 80s kids I guess. Deffo not hyphenating what ever we go for, just feels complicated to me.

I love Indi.

I have to be honest, I’m bored of Rose. It’s very overused as a middle name with or without a hyphen.

CarbonMonoxideParty · 13/10/2021 11:19

Indi/ indie/ Indy All soo twee.

Rose is sound and classic. More likely to be taken seriously as an adult

Edenember · 13/10/2021 11:15

I think you have a lovely name ready-made there. I’d go Indie Rose or Indiana Rose for a more ‘proper’ option, with Indie as diminutive. I know older ladies from different cultures named Indie / Indy, so it doesn’t really have a ‘trendy’ vibe to me, it’s just a lovely name. I would go with Indie rather than Indi though, even if Indi is original name people are more familiar with the former, making it look unfinished or like a quirky spelling.

SirSamuelVimes · 13/10/2021 11:11

Rose! By a mile.

DD is Rose. She's not at all graceful or delicate, it doesn't mean her name doesn't suit her. Roses are pretty hardy plants. With spikey bits. No reason Rose can't be a strong name! Especially as it lacks the twee "ee" or "ah" ending sound of so many girls' names.

NessieMcNessface · 13/10/2021 11:07

Rose Amelia
Rose Emilia
Rose Amelie
Rose Elizabeth
Rose Emily
Rose Alice
Rose Eleanor
Rose Edith
Rose Eliza

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 13/10/2021 10:54

Rose is super popular as a middle name at the moment, but is a classic and I love it. Don't know any little ones who have it as a first name. Agree with pp that Rosa is also lovely.

Indi is very fashionable right now - there are loads under the age of 5 where I live. I'm not a fan tbh. It looks like it should be short for something.

NewtoHolland · 13/10/2021 10:47

Thanks for the useful feedback, I hadn't thought of the graceful connotations of Rose so will consider that.
Rosalind would be a bit out of place with our other children's names.
I think with Indi spelling out whichever way you spell it will always be a thing because it's a slightly more unusual name, which wouldn't be an issue with Rose.
