What names do you love but wouldn't use

I went for a very safe name for my son. But looking at him now he could pull off Rio which his dad wanted to call him. There were others I loved but felt unfair to saddle a child with

Shilo
Hudon
Shay
Franklyn
Carter
Lorenzo (we have strong northern accents and it would sound ridiculous)
Carey - due a come back
Tate
Ira
Silas

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
KohlaParasanda · 12/10/2021 21:37

My youngest daughter would have been called Felicity if her grandmother hadn't spoiled it by pulling a face and saying, "Yuck, that's a cat's name."

Chachama · 12/10/2021 21:29

No I wouldn’t regret it. We are in wales, fluent welsh speaking so thinking a welsh name is more fitting anyway. Plus my partner hates Audrey 🙈

StillSmallVoice · 12/10/2021 21:24

Most of these are unusual for good reasons. Many comments have suggested what those good reasons are.

Among the lots of suggestions, Xavier was actually quite common in Catholic circles in Australia. Cultural.

DD was at school with a Raven. She was very impressed. He was Kate Bush's nephew.

Children's names are hugely fashionable. I am from a generation of Julie (Andrews), Jackie (Kennedy) and the rest.

Just think,

omfgimgettingmarried · 12/10/2021 21:19

Ishmael - one of my favourite names but from a completely different culture to ours.

Keir - love it, and I'm a leftie, but Starmer is too well known right now (and mostly for the wrong reasons Hmm)

Lsquiggles · 12/10/2021 21:17

Elijah - absolutely love it but I don't feel like we're the sort of people to use it, not sure why Blush

DarlingFell · 12/10/2021 21:17

Oh and Lucy, such a pretty name but perhaps not appropriate to name a baby the same as my childhood dog’s name 😁

inmyslippers · 12/10/2021 21:16

Nevaeh. It’s actually a really beautiful sounding name

^^ I too love Nevaeh but it gets absolutely dragged on here.

@romdowa

I've always loved Nathaniel but with my Irish accent it just sounds awful.
I love Nathaniel and Nate, such handsome names!
inmyslippers · 12/10/2021 21:14

Mordecai, zero Jewish heritage but I really love the way it sounds

^^ I love Cohen as a name but it's a jewish word for priest 😆

DarlingFell · 12/10/2021 21:14

Cosmo - a bit too out there
Ottilie - too widely used now
Ariel - too washing powdery
Anna - my favourite but DH’s exe’s name 😂

WildCherryBlossom · 12/10/2021 21:12

I loved Delilah during one pregnancy. I still kind of do and I would love to meet little Delilahs (or Delias or Dahlias for that matter). But I'm glad I didn't use it because DH would have sung the Tom Jones song at the poor child incessantly.

Cheermonger · 12/10/2021 21:09

Maud - such a beautiful name but I didn’t call either of my daughters it. Next one is a Maud, for sure 🤣

romdowa · 12/10/2021 21:09

I've always loved Nathaniel but with my Irish accent it just sounds awful.

dreamygirl25 · 12/10/2021 21:09

Skylar

Jellyfishnchips · 12/10/2021 21:09

Dwight for a boy (ok, am a big Poldark fan! 😁)
also love Liron (Hebrew name)

Paige
Adrienne
Odele (love it, but sounds too much like the famous singer)

WildCherryBlossom · 12/10/2021 21:08

Why not @Chachama ? It's a good name and you obviously love it. Do you think you might regret not using it if you choose something else?

Chachama · 12/10/2021 21:05

Audrey. I don’t know why, I absolutely love the name. Currently pregnant with my first and know if it’s a girl, I won’t use it, but it’s still lovely 😊

Brigittebidet · 12/10/2021 21:05

Django
Jotham (still my favourite name and I am gutted we didn’t use it for DS)
Phyllis - which I absolutely love and wasn’t even allowed for the dog!!

ChilliChaos · 12/10/2021 21:04

Artemisia.

Nevaeh. It’s actually a really beautiful sounding name.

Sandra. Viz’s fat slags.

Iris. Surname is Lewis so too lispy.

Oliver/Ollie. I already have a Stanley/Stan.

Cohen. Really love the sound of this but I’m not Jewish and I know some find it offensive.

Mamette · 12/10/2021 21:00

I love the name Raphael but it would not have suited DS2, who I briefly considered it for.

Shay is a really normal name where I am from. Most Shays are older, maybe in their 50s or 60s. It would be the equivalent of Alan or something like that.

yellowmoon487 · 12/10/2021 20:58

I love Javier, but with a very Irish surname it just wouldn't work!

Also Xavier, though don't think I'm brave enough.

PersephoneJames · 12/10/2021 20:57

My username is the name I'd have given DD in another universe!

orangeautumnleaves · 12/10/2021 20:56

Hunter.
Devon.

Love these as names but not brave enough to ever get used by us!

bekindbekindbekind · 12/10/2021 20:55

Briony

DidgeDoolittle · 12/10/2021 20:54

@2tired2bewitty

Mordecai, zero Jewish heritage but I really love the way it sounds
I feel the same. It's such a lovely name to say out loud. Nice to hear I'm not the only one.
