What names do you love but wouldn't use

I went for a very safe name for my son. But looking at him now he could pull off Rio which his dad wanted to call him. There were others I loved but felt unfair to saddle a child with

Shilo
Hudon
Shay
Franklyn
Carter
Lorenzo (we have strong northern accents and it would sound ridiculous)
Carey - due a come back
Tate
Ira
Silas

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Clara (DH didn't like it)
Etta (sounds awful with our surname)
Grace (DH didn't like it)

Matteo
Ilyas (always loved the way this name sounds)

sarah13xx · 15/10/2021 00:01

Blythe for a girl, just love it but we already have another girls name we’d use first

Puffalicious · 14/10/2021 21:59

@inmyslippers

She's red haired, so is a little red pepper

^^ that's just adorable

Isn't it just? Neighbour, Gran, came up with it.Smile
CaffiSaliMali · 14/10/2021 21:55

Esyllt for me which is Welsh for Iseult/Isolde. I'm in England and it be mispronounced as Ess-ilt as the aspirated L doesn't really translate.

Iseult is also on that list because DH would never agree.

I'm also partial to Constantin and Anatol but am not remotely Russian.

@DentalWorries

I love Pepper too. I know a Pippa who is often mistaken for Peppa (Pig) by her peers at nursery.
Next door's grand-daughter is Pepper. At first both neighbour and I were ' Erm...' but she's now 3 and totally suits it and I love it. She's red haired, so is a little red pepper Grin

Walter. Alas we have strong military connections so it’s not an option.

Hamish. It’s ‘too Scottish’ apparently.

inmyslippers · 14/10/2021 17:01

@Orphlids it's such a beautiful name. Clearly those shoppers have no taste!

^^ agreed

I love Arianwen and Merewyn but have no Welsh connection.

neverornow · 14/10/2021 14:23

Pepper (for a girl)

I think it's adorable 🥰

WildCherryBlossom · 14/10/2021 14:05

😂 @Orphlids one of mine has a name in a similar style to your DD's. Several times in the supermarket I was told that it was an "unusual" name for a boy. Well, yes it would be, but my baby is a girl.

TheYellowOne · 14/10/2021 13:43

Orphlids · 14/10/2021 12:34

@TheYellowOne I have an Isolde. She is too little to have her name shouted in the supermarket yet, but I am occasionally asked her name by other shoppers. They all wrinkle their noses when I tell them. 😂 I need to upgrade to Waitrose, because the clientele in the Co-op just isn’t cutting it!

She had a lucky escape though, as my DP really wanted to name her Boudicca. I had to draw the line at that, although I do actually think it’s a fabulous name.

inmyslippers · 14/10/2021 11:45

Reginald is fantastic name for a baby!

OP posts:
Enko · 14/10/2021 11:39

Always love Horatio and Reginald dh was on a firm no

Loce Aida and Lakme' too

Enko · 14/10/2021 11:33

Flora I love it but our surname starts Fl too

DentalWorries · 14/10/2021 09:29

@JuneJuly I hadn’t even realised they had the same issue with Autumn, just googled it. It’s been on my list forever but I don’t want people to think we copied the name they wanted 😂

JuneJuly · 14/10/2021 03:37

@DentalWorries

I love this thread! Adding Atticus to my boys list.

Autumn is top of my girls list but our surname is double barrelled and both start with S so I’m not sure if that’s too risky even with a middle name

Stacey & Joe vibes!!😆

Dd1 says she's going to call a future son Atticus, nn Kit. It will hopefully be a while off though as she's still only 17 atm.

Puffalicious · 13/10/2021 21:22
@Puffalicious of course it’s not universal in the whole of Glasgow but in the area I’m from it definitely is Grin

You’re right though - Violetta is probably my favourite as well. I might consider using it in future!
Go for it!! I think it's awesome. I shall keep an ear out for little, future Violettas and she might be yours!

Babydust13 · 13/10/2021 20:35

Forrest
Genevieve

Mybobowler · 13/10/2021 16:41

Ishbel. If baby #2 was a girl I'd probably be mounting a serious campaign for it, but rationally I know that with no Scottish connection whatsoever, it would never work. I adore it though.

Isolde.

Can't really imagine shouting it in a supermarket aisle though....

^^ depends which supermarket 🤔😆

I love but wouldn't use Ptolemy, Adrianna and Lavinia.
I'm 32 weeks pregnant and little girl doesn't have a name yet.
