Lorelei/Lorelai

Also I have no idea which is the correct/most popular spelling?

I'm not sure I'm even brave enough to use it being from the UK is it too American

Any other suggestions much appreciated

It's not my style (as in, I wouldn't use it for a DD), but I do love it. But then, I'm a Gilmore Girls fan AND a fan of Germanic names in general.

A pp said it best: who wants a safe name?! Marmite is the way to go imo.

Classica · 14/10/2021 14:14

Gilmore Girls

LittleGwyneth · 14/10/2021 13:44

I love it!

Aozora13 · 13/10/2021 08:20

I love it. It was on my shortlist for DD3.

Sinister Rhinemaiden luring hapless sailors to their deaths? Go for it!

Glassofshloer · 13/10/2021 07:52

I think it’s pretentious and the ‘lie’ sound at the end is awkward. I remember hearing a bloke I worked with complaining that nobody could pronounce it (it was his daughter’s name) and I remember thinking no wonder 😳

ErrolTheDragon · 13/10/2021 07:30

It's pretty. I've liked it since at the age of 6 we did a boat trip down the Rhine (very memorable in the 1960s). My mother knew the 'Die Loreley' song and sang it to us as we passed the Lorelei rock. The tune and the 'shape' of the words has stuck ever since though I never knew what they meant (till I found a YouTube just nowGrin)

AuntieStella · 13/10/2021 07:18

I'd spell it Lorelei, as that's the traditional way for a Rhine maiden

I wouldn't have known any of the telly associations, and my guess is that they won't last as long as the German myths and legends

Leeloo1233 · 13/10/2021 07:10

It's so cool, kinda hipstery, definitely use it!

Balonzette · 13/10/2021 00:34

LOVE it! Lorelei my favourite spelling. Beautiful name. Not try hard at all. Not every little girl needs to be called Lily or Evie.

WaitinginVain · 12/10/2021 22:07

I would spell it Lorelei and I love it. You should use it OP, who wants a safe name?

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 12/10/2021 21:46

Never heard of it being American, I’d assume you were into Germanic mythology.

FartnissEverbeans · 12/10/2021 21:45

I love it! It’s fab

daisypond · 12/10/2021 21:33

I know a Lorelei - spelled like that, and definitely not American. It’s from German mythology, I thought.

Mumwithapub · 12/10/2021 21:32

It's in Germany.

Mumwithapub · 12/10/2021 21:31

Marillion (band) did a video live from Lorelei back in the 80s it's a town somewhere in Europe.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2021 21:28

Oh dear. I'm so sorry, but it's hideous.

Buttons294749 · 12/10/2021 20:26

I LOVE it and am still salty that DH wouldn't let me use it for DD. Seeing as I can't you should!! Lorelei is the original German mythic character.

I also love Gilmore girls Blush

bekindbekindbekind · 12/10/2021 20:24

I'm so sorry but I find it a bit too try-hard Blush Faux-fancy actually captures it really well.

Babydust13 · 12/10/2021 20:24

I have a safer name that I like which isn't quite so marmite maybe that's the way to go

Picking names is hard

yellowgingham · 12/10/2021 20:19

How do you pronounce it?

I don't love it myself but it's fine.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 12/10/2021 20:18

I like it but I'm a big Gilmore Girls fan.
