Baby name, Winter??

We are planning our second baby soon and if we have a girl I love the name Winter. However, surname will be Williams and I'm not sure if it sounds too much? Any thoughts would be welcome and also middle name ideas :) Thanks.

I really rather like it. Not usually a fan of alliterative names but I think Winter Williams has a nicer ring to it than most. I don't think of dreary things at all with winter, more of Christmas and coziness.

I was going to suggest Winter Robin and then realised that really WOULD be too much. It sounds like it needs a 1-syllable middle name to flow nicely into Williams, but not Rose.

Winter Eve Williams
Winter Fern Williams
Winter Joy Williams
Winter Dawn Williams

I think she will be called Win for short. Like my gran's sister.......

I think you know what I'm saying

TwinsandTrifle · 11/10/2021 18:00

We've actually got a surname virtually identical to yours, (one letter different, begins with W) and our DD has Winter as a middle name as we like it, but it was too much with the surname.

We also didn't want to sound trendy then dated with her first name.

It's a lovely name though, use it the way it feels right to you.

dangerrabbit · 11/10/2021 17:59

I think it's a lovely name. What about

Winter Faith
Winter Jean
Winter Blue
Winter Sea

SoupDragon · 11/10/2021 17:55

I don't think it works with your surname at all.

toastofthetown · 11/10/2021 17:52

I like the name Winter. Winter Williams isn’t my favourite, but it’s not awful. Winter is trendy though. Not sure if it bothers you, but it’s rocketed in popularity and in about fifteen years it’s gone from no use in England and Wales to being ranked 310 and still rising.

Waternoice · 11/10/2021 17:47

And a Storm too, just for good measure!

TurnUpTurnip · 11/10/2021 17:47

@littlejalapeno

Like the name Winter, used to work with a Winta who was very nice. Like alliteration and repetitive characters in names, so that works too with the ‘w’ and ‘I’ buuuut some childish over-thinking kid is gonna notice the ‘wi-wi” elements and she might get teased? Might be overthinking it tho
I was thinking “winter willy” for teasing 😣
Waternoice · 11/10/2021 17:46

Just to warn you, in my son’s class there was a Winter, Autumn and Summer!
But all of them nice names.

Winnie for short.
I love it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/10/2021 17:32

Winter Rose Williams
William Alice Williams
Winter Grace Williams
Winter Belle Williams
Winter Rae Williams

Thank you everyone for your comments. Mixed opinions as I already guessed but surprised at how many people like the name Winter :). Middle name ideas would also be appreciated. Thank you.

I suggested winter when we were shortlisting baby names,
He said ‘winter is coming’ from game of thrones and it obviously put me off!
But maybe game of thrones won’t be as widely known in the next few years!

TurnUpTurnip · 11/10/2021 17:06

I hate it with your surname sorry but love the name on its own but then I hate alliteration

mamaoffourdc · 11/10/2021 15:58

My daughter 16 is a Winter x

daisypond · 11/10/2021 15:54

I quite like Winter, but I’m not sure of it alongside Williams. It would need a longer, classic middle name, definitely not a one-syllable one.

HeadNorth · 11/10/2021 15:26

Not with your surname, sorry. My mum chose an alliterated name for me and I hated it. The main reason I changed my name on marriage was to escape my twee and ridiculous name combo. If your surname didn’t begin with a W it would be lovely.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 11/10/2021 15:21

It's lovely but I don't think it works with Williams, sorry. It's a bit William Wallace so it's either your thing or not. If you love it then go for it and don't let me put you off.

My first name and surname have very similar sounds and it drives me crackers. People get really confused and I have to spell out two straightforward names constantly.

Summer, Autumn, Storm, Amber are all of a similar genre without the alliteration.

Frazzledd · 11/10/2021 15:17

@alpinerain

Winter sounds warm, cozy and magical to me.
Me too! Plus Christmas! I think log fires, sparkly lights, snow...its pretty (and the most, wonderful time of the year 🎶)
alpinerain · 11/10/2021 14:34

Winter sounds warm, cozy and magical to me.

DFOD · 11/10/2021 14:34

I don’t like it - for me it has connotations of bleak, cold, grey, damp …. not something that I could associate with a new born - although as a grown adult it could some gravitas - could a performer with that name.

canyoutoleratethis · 11/10/2021 14:32

Winter Williams is a beautiful name OP, go for it!! Your surname deserves to have a little Winter Grin

TheSpiral · 11/10/2021 14:30

Seasons! Not months.

TheSpiral · 11/10/2021 14:29

Personally I am not keen, for me it sounds cold and grey and a bit harsh and old. I imagine someone with silvery hair. Summer, spring and autumn are pretty months, winter not so much.
